Thread: Swaledale Marathon

    Re: Swaledale Marathon

Hi Ambrosia Kid - will def be entering again next year. You were right about the over 50 Swaledale RR guy, he caught me going up Punchard Head and was still going like a train then. Thought about giving chase, but after consulting my legs on this matter, their vote was to keep plodding on at the same pace. Felt ok most of way round, but was fighting off cramp on the run in from Surrender Bridge. I guess I need to get those long training runs in a bit earlier next year - leaving it untill 2 weeks before the event was not such a good idea.

Great time! The results went up yesterday. http://www.swaledaleoutdoorclub.org....on/results.pdf

Although I was dissapointed to be slower than last year after a great run up until Gunnerside I was pleased to see my position in the field up!

    Hi All

I'm considering this for 2010 - is it wise to reccie the route in advance?

    Cheers

    It can't do any harm

Most of it is fairly easy paths/tracks, but a recce of the bit from the Great Punchard Head checkpoint would be helpful as it's not obvious as there's a few ways over the moor before you get back on the path before Friarfold Rake. Also the descent down to Gunnerside Gill is worth looking at, I've never found that to be too clear on the ground.

iirc this fills up very quickly so if you're serious about doing it keep an eye out re entries.

Thanks - I think it's a case of look on the website towards the end of the year isn't it?

The entry form pops up on the website at the beginning of January.

Unless they have online entry now, you print out a copy and send it off. Expect it to be full within a week of the form appearing.
