    Ally McBeal.

I am on episode 10 of 110 and she's just started dancing with the baby.

"Do you know you're odd?" ......... "I do".

    Cheers.
only just seen this thread [except obviously I had cos I posted on it ages ago - durrr] ...

The one I watched after the Wire was the Shield - sheer TV crack, amazing. Not as deep or complex as the Wire (or, overall, as good, but what is?) but more of a high-velocity white-knuckle ride. The last season is the weakest - like the Wire, in my opinion.

Closest thing I've come to the Wire is Brotherhood - set among the Irish and Italian communities in Providence, Rhode Island. Just finished second season and it's pretty compelling stuff.

On a slightly different tack - and this is coming from someone with no background of liking sc-fi at all - I though Battlestar Galactica (the recent reincarnation obviously) was absolutely brilliant. That will keep you going for quite some time.

Coming in 4th and 5th place: Mad Men and Breaking Bad.

If you like The Wire, then the first couple of seasons of Homicide: Life on the Street are well worth watching. I haven't watched the later seasons yet, but the first (when David Simon was still involved) is excellent. Can't really top the suggestion of watching The Wire again from the start though!

You might also enjoy The Corner, which is the miniseries about the drug markets in Baltimore that David Simon made just before The Wire.

Apart from The Wire, my list of essential box sets would be:

    Battlestar Galactica (Syfy channel version)
    Twin Peaks
    Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel
    Firefly

Noooooooooo... pure evil, probably the most annoying TV programme ever made... saying that, Sex in the City comes pretty close..

Has to be The West Wing, especially the first three seasons.

Can't believe no one's mentioned OZ!
And aside from this I'd go with sons of anarchy, the wire, twin peaks, dexter and sopranos.
What are peoples thoughts on Mad men? Not seen any of it yet.

I really rate Mad Men, superb stuff.

I didn't think much to Sons of Anarchy eavesy, I thought it was a bit cliched, a bit like Dallas-in-Hells-Angels-costumes: like The Sopranos or The Wire had never been made.

Am halfway through Deadwood - brilliant, Swearingen-tastic!

    Not exactly new, but Seinfeld!

After watching it in bits and bobs over the years, me and my girlfriend have slowly gone through the whole lot in order (got about three episodes to go). Brilliant stuff apart from the odd dud episode.

    Curb Your Enthusiasm next.
