    Tonights Facebook

I thought this sounds a bit different from all those todays threads....

Facebook, love it or hate it, it's still there.

I'm always pleased to get friend requests, although I try and be selective in the fact I avoid friends kids (except family, god children etc). I also like my "friends" to be friends and not some one I spoke to in a pub 5 years ago.

Recently I've had a quite a few from names I don't know, But looking at the names some are friends of friends so people I know from say fell races who I say hi to, perhaps been on reccies with, BG's etc. some have similar likes to me. Occasionally I work out who these are and more often than not I'll respond.

My dilemma is when I can't work out who they are. It's probable that a few of them are forumites and not knowing every ones real name makes it difficult.

If you send a request to who ever and they might not know your real name may I suggest you send a short message with that request then I at least won't ignore it and feel guilty

Any one else have the same dilemma?

I'm of the same thoughts Ian...I must know the person to speak to, and actually be able to remember them. There's a few quirky exceptions but not many. I recently had a friend request from someone with a potentially dodgy looking name - ie not firstname/surname, no photos so couldn't recognise the person. I ignored it. About a week later I got a message from said 'friend' explaining that I'd met him in fontainbleau in 1993....with a short reminder I knew exactly who he was and we're now FB friends....and Ian, he's the reason for me posting a photo of me recently wearing some dodgy looking flares with a much different hair cut!!!

My number of Facebook friends requests is in direct correlation to the number of photos I take at races. I always get a flurry of requests after I've published a bunch of pics. As long as I know vaguely who they are, ie, I recognise their name or are friends of friends I'll generally accept them. There are a few that I've accepted - including people that I know and have met that having added I then hide soI don't have to read their inane ramblings!

I have a page for my artwork and I direct people to that if I don't know them. I ignore friend requests unless I have actually met the person and like them with the one exception being forum members who I may not have met but would be happy to.

I had a friend request a couple years ago from someone who's name I didn't recognise but who looked like a nice guy...I asked him who he was, turned out to be a well-known forumite. In hindsight, I'm glad that I didn't ignore that request

I recently blocked a 'friend' after she continually posted racist comments on her facebook page. She used to be my next door neighbour and I always thought she was pleasant enough but I'd rather not have anything to do with her now.

Fortunately I'm self-employed and I have a facebook page for my artwork so I refer any businessy type people or people that I know but wouldn't class as friends to that.
