Apparently there was in the region of 70 ladies in Saturday's race, perhaps enough to warrant a separate race? That way if there was any queueing then at least it would be fair to the ladies, and I guess, in some cases, the men too.

Bit harsh Steve saying 'it reflects bad on the club' I slipped going over the first style and was helped up and over by a Tod Harrier so they're not all bad, it's not the clubs fault they have a one member with no brain, but hey now we all know his name and how he looks from the pictures lets flog him and whip him at the next race he's at and then ban him from 2014 fell races for being stupid and ugly :w00t:

Chris, I wasn't suggesting, in any way, that ALL members of a particular club reflect an individual’s selfishness. However if I did such a thing, I think it would reflect badly on Clayton Le Moors.

There was also a runner from Burnden (AC?) in a grey / red piped vest who jumped the queue from behind me. I didn't ask him to stop ~ I yelled ''Oy get back, there's a queue!!''. Others in the queue also joined in my shouts as he looked round sheepishly. Eventually he did get back, but only just behind me. Who are these runners that think they have the right to jump queues. I know it's often frustrating to queue at stiles but it's the same for everyone ~ unless you're fit enough to get there before everyone else . Come on guys, it's an open race on a nice sunny afternoon ~ don't spoil the fun by cheating on your mates (if you still have any left). Ejit :thunbdown:

To be fair to the Burnden runner it was only his first fell race and he's new to running. He didn't realise what the queue was for, and just assumed it was people going slowly ( fair comment with mapper there ) As soon as he realised the error of his ways he joined the queue. There was no intention to cheat, and he apologises for transgressing one of the cardinal unwritten rules of fell running. Fortunately the barracking didn't put him off, and he's keen to do some more proper races, and I'm sure he'll be as grateful for the rest at stiles as the rest of us are.

There never used to be this problem with a stile when I was doing the race. I seem to recall we went left of the house at Buttock and up to the double gate, which was always opened for the race.

PS - there were some big fields even back then (it wasn't THAT long ago!)
