Thread: Strava: FRA club..

    Re: Strava: FRA club..

Have any of you guys set up any downhill segments for fun?

I think it's fairly challenging to find descents where you can descend at a (vertical) rate of 1m/sec (or faster!), so roughly 1000ft in 5mins. The longer the descent is the harder it is to achieve.

I set one up in the Ochils today on a classic downhill (part of The Law Breaker Race)...

No doubt the Alva Games descent just along the road would be fairly rapid in terms of vertical m/sec!

Or you can try this one in the Lakes...

Wonder what's the biggest descent in the UK which can be done at a vertical speed greater than 1m/sec? Tryfan downhill must fit the bill? Can The Ben be descended from top to road in just over 20mins?

Anyone else got any good downhill segments to have a go at?

The full Alva Games route is on there.

I should add a segment for the first bit of the descent before it flattens out.

Okay Strava is properly peeing me off! Firstly they changed the route map and profile overview massively for the worse (and added in Pace and GAP buttons that I'm really not that bothered about) and now, when I created a segment that covers more than one hill (Ingleton to Dent - the first slug of the Fellsman), it doesn't show me the aggregate feet of climb but just the lowest and highest point!!! The aggregate climb was pretty much why I wanted to create the segment goddamit - I'm not missing anything am I? Presumably cyclists are only interested in one hill segments and us runners have to tag along

That Harry Howgill story up there is fantastic. I bet you're the kind of lowlife that gets a changang together when there's a decent tailwind just to attack a segment.
Agree on the hills though, there's a segment round the corner I'm on 160 ascents so far. Because I'm scum

I had quite got into using Strava, but for the same reasons you mention I have abandoned it and will stick to Garmin Connect for my anorak-ing over runs. The changes made have prettyy much ruined its usability. IMO.

I use it on my android phone. the "strava run app" has not changed, (it still shows the graphical representation of the climb/decent on a Km by Km basis, etc) so I find it a nicer environment than the website.

There is worse. A mate of mine has just had to change from using his real name to something anonymous because a guy was stalking him and going out and doing exactly the same rides as him then bragging about beating his KOMs and times. Strava can bring out the worst in people.

But there is quite a good crack going on round Kendal at the moment. There are a good half dozen who are sparring for KOMs, and everyone is keeping it all in the right spirit. Since that guy through his toys out the pram it has all been good fun.

And yes, it is getting to the point that there is no way some of these KOMs will ever be beaten without a tailwind.
