Weldone lycramike awesome effort in them conditions, I know of at least 3 other rounds that bombed out with weather and being down on time so good to see you and the dp lad make it :thumbup:

I was supporting Rob on leg 2 - 1.5 hr down sounds about right vs 23 sched - can't be sure about that though, just going from memory. I can confirm however that conditions were poor on leg 2, gusting wind, horizontal rain and clag limiting vis to 10 or 20m at best on the tops. Cold enough that there was still snow in a few of the gullies. Sounded like leg 1 was similar. They all pushed out of Dunmail cheerfully enough though as the weather was forecast to move through, which it (eventually) did. First class effort to lycramike for finishing so well after that lot.

I don't know any more than you do, Ian. I heard an hour and a half down - but whether that was against their 23 or rather a 24 hour schedule I couldn't say.

Thanks all! I didn't shout about it but I was on a 20hr schedule and got round leg 1 and 2 half an hour down due to the bad weather and some puking at threlkeld (not sure what happened there), did leg 3 on schedule but took ages on broad stand so took it easy on leg 4 and walked most of leg 5 due to bad right knee but was more than happy to get to moot hall in one piece!

I mentioned it elsewhere but we took the climbers' traverse on Paul's attempt. It is a very viable option as there is very little height loss from mickledore to the start of the traverse.

Not brilliant if it's wet/slippy though, not unlike Broad Stand I reckon!

I think the whole issue of the transit to Scafell is very subjective. If you are a good climber (and assuming your supporters are of a similar ilk) and don't run into traffic on Broad Stand, then OK, BS can save you a good few minutes, however it's a variable that I'm not sure I would like to introduce after the best part of 40 miles on your feet.

On my first attempt I was overtaken somewhere around Great End by a lad who started 30 minutes after me, it was wet and horrible and Broad Stand was difficult for him. I know this because I went via LR/WWT and overtook him, so he must have lost a good bit of time there. I hasten to add that he caught me again on the descent to Wasdale and related the story, he went on to get round in a decent time.

If I was to do it again I'd have just kept it simple and gone to foxes tarn as I don't have an issue with going uphill... If the rock was dry lords rake could have been an option (or the climbers traverse which I've not seen). I had to look twice when my lap time said 58 minutes for between scafell pike and scafell :s Though that was mainly due to our third man not being a confident (and slightly short) climber. Had I thought on he could have dropped down to wasdale via mickledore... Ah well.
