I really enjoyed that course (well I had more time to enjoy it than most of you). Best course since Roundhay or the Derby Golf Course.

Definitely runnable and lots of little hills were great, just had lots of people streaming past me on the flat. The gloop was depressing and hard work, but it didn't last long, and it was the same for everybody.

Good to see various folk there (sorry I missed you AP), and well done to the leading forumites for some outstanding performances.

See you at White Holme tomorrow. I'll be the one running funny.

Good runs from Widy and Danbert, and how about Mr Bentley!

I thought this was 12 men per team, but the result show 6. Whats going on Danbert?

Well done all who ran. It was a good course but I was convinced I had at least another half lap to do because of the time. it was obviously a short course, 6.5 miles I reckon.

Quite a strong wind when you were against. Quite enjoyable. I wish I had entered the national now.

Don't say that, I was feeling pleased at running it 8 minutes faster than last year!!!

The Senior Mens winning time (33:35) was the quickest ever.
The previous shortest time was in 1993 (34:39) at Pontefract racecourse.

This would indicate that the course was probably the shortest ever....
or Roadrunner and the rest of the field ran extremely fast!

The total number of athletes who finished was over 2007...the first time this century that the total number of finishers has been greater than the year of competition!

1998 (2,524) and 1999 (2,150) were the only years when the combined total of male and female athletes who finished were higher that the 2,059 who finished yesterday.

Its good to see that cross country running is still flourishing.

This makes sense, but some bits are confusing. Like the section I have quoted you on.

Do you have a complete list of winners of the SM race since the first race?
Apart from Dr Ron Hill, Dave Lewis, Steve Kenyon and myself, how amny others have wn this race twice on the run? Anyone won it more than twice on the run or more than twice over any period?

On another stats point XRunner, how many times has a person with the same name won two age groups like what happened in the U15 and U17 races? (They were not brothers either)

http://www.gbrathletics.com/bc/neaao.htm tells all RR. 4 in a row is the best ever streak so there's plenty of work to do yet!

We've got our eyes on Bingley's record of 7 team wins in a row now!

The only fault with the course is the length really. It needed a short lap at the start to give it those extra 5 minutes.

Interesting to note that brother and sister Alan and Anne Buckley have both won the Northern senior title but not in the same year. I'm fairly sure they were both 10th one year too. Who can resist a good stat!

    Bingley's success is not unique.

Salford Harriers won the Northern Seniors from 1890 to 1896 and Sheffied United Harriers won from 1955 to 1961 while Hallamshire Harriers won eight times in a row from 1923 to 1930.

I don't have a computer list of all the Northern winners.

The Centenary History of the Northern Cross Country Association was published in 1982 (written by Dr Phil Thomas from Sutton St.Helens). This lists all team and individual winners for the first 100 years. Other results are from Athletics Weekly.

Five people have won the Northern Senior Men Cross Country Championships 4 times:

    James Hosker (Farnworth H.) 1898, 1899, 1903 and 1905
    Ernest Jones (Hallamshire H.) 1912, 1913, 1914 and 1921
    Jack Potts (Saltwell H.) 1932, 1936, 1937 and 1938
    Ron Hill (Bolton United H.) 1964, 1965, 1967 and 1968
    Trevor Wright (Hallamshire H.) 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972

Five people have won it three times:

    E.W.Parry (1888, 1889, 1891), E.Harper (1925, 1926, 1927), F.E.Aaron (1949, 1950, 1951), F.Norris (1953, 1954, 1959) and D.Lewis (1983, 1994, 1995)

Ten people have won it on two occasions:

    G.Crossland (1894, 1896), J.Murphy (1909, 1910), C.Vose (1911, 1920), W.Beavers (1928, 1929), G.North (1960, 1961), M.Turner (1963, 1966), S.Kenyon (1978, 1979), G.Turnbull (1986, 1987), P.Roden (1988, 1997), A.Jones (2006, 2007)
