Tragic accident. But the height thing is plain daft. At the other end of the scale, you can drown in 1 inch of water.

I learnt to drive late on, in my thirties. At the time I was regularly soloing VS and HVS often way out on the moors after a long run with only a pair of rock shoes and a chalk bag for company.
When I was sitting behind a steering wheel overtaking in the dark with the headlights of on-coming traffic in my eyes I was trembling with fear. Soloing on rock or driving, which was the most dangerous? Which activity had the most objective dangers? Over which had I the most control? No contest. People have no idea how much danger they are in just going about their everyday lives. Familiarity breeds contempt.
I've fallen so I feel for that kid and his family. I can picture the ridge and the hellish journey down. But a consequence of height is falling, of speed: crashing. Ultimately there's no avoiding it; life. Just take care.

just found the link for the video report (it was the studio introduction that was really pushing the ban idea)

Similar reaction to the Tryfan death. There has to be someone/something to blame, accidents (due to personal responsibility) don't happen anymore.
Inevitably the pressure will come on those who control the mountains (national parks, estates, whatever), but it won't have much effect on my remaining years in Walshes to the lot of them.
I have this uneasy feeling that UKA could eventually be dragged down in this direction........ incoming ordnance
Don't roll with a pig in poo. You get covered in poo and the pig likes it.
