Stamford Park (Stalybridge) Parkrun inaugural run yesterday.
A nice little Cross-Country course on the parkland behind Tameside Hospital.
Course is 2 x 2km laps of mostly XC trail with steady climb / descent, plus 1km total for the level out and the back section.
Around 8% slower than a fast flat 5km.
Stamford not quite as tough as Lyme Park in current dry conditions but tougher than many and I can see Stamford getting tougher in winter. due to terrain. Overall an interesting and varied addition to the Greater Manchester Parkrun suite.

Must give this one a go - just been parkrunning in NZ and got a few in.

Thanks Colin, it was good to have perfect PB conditions with both the dry course and the ideal weather this morning. Good to see you again after so long!

    Yes - interesting.

The council set up an initial meeting some time ago, but my club have enough on so didn't attend.
Imagine being invited to put on a Parkrun in Witton. There's some good options:

a fast 5K tarmac and cycle path?
a gently undulating woodland trail 5K.
a grassy cross country type 5K
an almost A cat climb hill run.

I feel sorry for the people who have volunteered to get involved. Unfortunately the route options have been severely restricted due to a C25K group that uses the park on Saturday mornings.
I can't understand why the C25K can't just step back, let the Park run have the pick of the park an dthen direct their members to the Parkrun on Saturdays.

It's probably something to do with the Council's KPIs.

looks like Parkrun will arrive in Lancaster in November. I reckon it's 5 years since my 2 runs at South Manchester, might have to dig out my bar code

Today's schedule reminded me of the 5-year old opening premise of this thread.

125 runners at the 3rd Glossop parkrun this morning, with 14-out-of-20 (70%) of the parkrun volunteers being local club runners.
At least half of those club runners went on to participate in the season opening XC races this afternoon at Woodbank Park in the Manchester Area Cross Country League at 75p per race - hosted by the Stockport Harriers - at a venue which had just held its 319th parkrun earlier this morning. Some of the largest XC fields I have witnessed in both Womens and Mens events.

There's nowt so queer as folk.
The first finisher at Glossop parkrun today has clocked up 118 parkrun runs at 117 different events (parkrun locations).
I guess there is only a slim chance that we will be seeing him again, then.
