    Chevy Chase

Any forumites doing this tomorrow? 20m/4000ft to the top of The Cheviot and Hedgehope.

Not that I'm looking forward to the 6am start to get to Wooler in time

Did it last year - sprained ankle in the last 100 metres, on tarmac, after 20 miles!! Maybe I'll do it again next year...
Missed the Sky programme though. Anyone got more details?

The programme I think you're looking for is called "Chevy Chase: Shaking Loose the Borders" - shown on the Community Channel. It's a documentary as much about how the town of Wooler prepares for the occasion as the race itself, but still good to watch (I make a very brief - and I mean brief - appearance on it too!).

Results and photos of this year's race on the Northumberland Fell Runners site.

    Re: Chevy Chase

    Dear Phil,
Yes, I have spoken to Mary and she has my details. Thanks for keeping an ear out for me.Do you know of any maps of the route online for the race? I have wanted to do this one for a while as I lived in Newcastle for four years before I started fell racing and used to cycle all over, then didn't have a car when I was doing a lot of racing in the 80's. So I never raced in Northumberland (apart from the first Tyneside People's marathon and the first Great North Run, which got me started...So it is about time!
    Cheers,
    Geoff

    Take plenty of fluids.

Find someone to follow who knows a good line between The Cheviot and Hedgehope, the key issue being whether to climb early to the crest of the ridge or run a more easterly line towards the summit after crossing the stream.

Oh, and don't sprain your ankle on the pancake-flat asphalt footpath 50m from the finish. It's very annoying and hugely embarrassing.
