Having been a follower of the FRA forum since reading Feet in the clouds, I would like to wish you all A happy Christmas and thank you all for hours of riveting fun/inspiration and maybe a new target for 2011. I may even join the FRA. If only we had mountains in SARF LONDON.

I find "Feet in the Clouds" inspiring and daunting in equal measure. Don't be put off. Not all FRA members are tough and daring (I know at least one who isn't). There must be parks and commons in Sarf London. There were when I grew up there. I spend much of my training time running round and round and round on the grass and mud (and snow) of my local park, being careful to take in all the hilliest sections. When I do get to a hill, I go up and down it over and over again. When I trip over fallen branches and leaves and litter, I tell myself it's really good training. I freely admit I'm not the boldest of fell runners, and my racing is almost non-existent, but you don't need to qualify to join the FRA, it's not like the 3 Peaks. And getting the Calendar and magazine through one's door is also highly inspiring. Next thing you know, you'll have entered for a race.

Alexandra, Wimbledon Common, Richmond Park are but foothills and only exsist as mountains in my imagination. ONE DAY I will be there.
Yo, OBNW I remember many a hill when I ran in the London Colleges Cross Country League in the mid 80's. Check the link below, look for cross country events and I can vouch for the presence of hills at these venues. You could also use Map My Run to find routes around these venues.

why not get yourself up to the Yorkshire Dales or the Lakes for a weekend during the summer and have a go at one of the short Bofra type races. They are very doable with all sorts of abilities having a go.
Rodders, I do use map my run and the 'Thames Hare and Hounds' courses but nearly all hills round here are over in a few minutes. Been up Box Hill so many times feels like its me own back garden.
Wycoller, thats a definate must do for 2011. used to belong to LDWA late 70s/80s Surrey group, thinking about rejoining. Just back from Wimbledon common but theres so many people there the snow has been trodden flat and its like a massive ice rink, not much fun. Going to look at Bofra race calender now, many thanks.
Bofra calendar isn't out yet but will be very similar to 2010. If you pick one of the shows then you should be able to find the 2011 date.
