Yeah but I guess having Halifax Town on your door step may have influenced things a bit .

Proper football fans though are another breed of obsessive nutcases altogether. There's a chap in our office here (in Leeds) who is a fanatical Cambridge United supporter and who, in this last season, has travelled to every game (bar one) - something like 24,000 miles of driving , all to follow a team trying (and failing in the playoff final against Exeter) to get out of the Blue Square Premier and into League 2.

Sorry Stolly, can't overlook the fact that these guys get £20,30K+ a week for kicking a ball around!!! Sticks in my craw and leaves a nasty taste.

    John Terry = £150K a week, Rooney = £120K, Ronaldo = £125K etc etc.

The wages though don't themselves make the game better or worse; they just get poeple's goat for other reasons. Remember though that top sports stars in the US earn similarly, Indian Cricket might soon go the same way and a fair few actors and actresses can command $20,000,000 dollars or more to star in a film. And what about the world's super rich? Bill Gates et al - I don't see many people refusing to use Windows because of Bill' earnings .

Fair point, Stolly, I agree. It just adds to the fact that I consider football to be way over-rated, but that's my personal opinion.
