Treat your old one to a squirt of WD40 round the bezel and it'll be as good as new.

    Re: Compass Buying!

Before the squirt of WD 40; from the underside of the baseplate, the spring clip, that holds the bezel into the baseplate, can be 'flicked out' using a jeweller's screwdriver or similar tool; allowing the bezel to be completely extracted from the baseplate. This allows you to clean out any muck or grit that might have lodged between the two components ( an old toothbrush is ideal for this process ). Apply the WD 40 before re-introducing the bezel to the baseplate and re-insert the spring clip from the underside. ( Was regularly performing this trick 35 - 40 years ago when using the Silva for surveying and mapping newly discovered cave passages ).

Sling em Nee Bother, the bubbles are there because the housing is probably leaking and they will stop the damping effect and interfere with the needle, ask Swoop, he had one just the same on the navigation course

I agree! Luckily I was able to borrow one and bought a new one straight after the course!
