    Re: Waterproof bottoms

I've got a pair of waterproof trousers that I bought years since in a sale somewhere, they're spray way. I have been running and walking for ten years and never needed to put them on. The only time I ever used them was at a music festival when I saw the Who and it was chucking it down.

It is something that when you do need them you'll want some that are waterproof and windproof you probably won't care about their breathability because you'll just want to keep the wind off you.

I hate even walking in waterproof leggings never mind running, as long as your bottom half is thin and quick drying you're okay. I didn't put mine on in the OMM last year and I'm sure you heard how bad the weather was there !

    Re: Waterproof bottoms

Another thumbs up for the Montane Atomic DT pants. I was sceptical at having to spend that much money on something that I thought I only needed for the kit requirements for the OMM, as I have never used waterproof bottoms before, as skin is quite waterproof without any outside help...

However, I was glad I had them, I wore them and I was toasty warm and dry inside my Hagloffs Lim jacket and the Montane atomic DT pants... Quite a few people were in OMM Kamleika stuff, which had let the water in...

I have worn the atomic pants commuting into work on the bike on bad days when we get strong wind and lashing rain as well, they are really worth the money!

    Re: Waterproof bottoms

Apparently, after a few soakings, they do... My OMM partner used to have one and bought a Hagloffs Lim smock in stead. The Hagloffs Oz ones are lighter and more expensive and are apparently the best waterproofs you can get.

I don't like smocks, as I hate pulling tops on over my head, especially wet ones (dislocated my shoulder and you need good shoulder flexibility for that) so I bought one with a zip... BRILLIANT piece of kit! And did I use it last summer! Every race and decent run I did was in the pooring rain and lashing wind... My longest run was a 30 mile one, just over 6 hours in the pooring rain, and I was dry! The only damp patch was on my back where my sucksack sits... from the sweat not evaporating through the fabric.

I don't know about the tops, the trousers are fine. Mind you, as I don't wear anything tracksuit under the trousers I probably wouldn't notice if they let a few drops through!
