Looks really interesting.
Looks really interesting.
Errm, incidentally, why is it "Tour de Helvellyn"?
Shouldn't it be "Tour of Helvellyn"???
Unless the French have invaded and I've missed it....
Shurely shome mishtake! :closed:
Wheelbase do that tour de Staveley bike race thing as well. Why the need for the French slant?
Anyway. Just plotted a route on memory map and its 36 miles and 7900ft of ascent. Does the elevation sound right by others recconings?
I was trying to count the climb on the OS map
I got 2000m ,, though for a spell I was counting contours as 5m instead of 10
So, something over 2000m
When I firast heard about this I had a look and the route went off to High Row and the coach road then had some road up Thirlmere
I think Sticks and the forest tracks will make a much better route
Isn't Helvellyn a big mountain in Cumberland?
I'm only looking for fun........
Looks good.
Tracklogs says 2530 metres of climbing.
I've thrown my hat in the ring.
Occasional ramblings http://sometimesridesbikes.blogspot.com/
votre chapeau dans l'anneau, please
More - it says Le Tour De Helvellyn - En Hiver
now,
I don't know where Hiver is ,
and I can't find it on any of the OS maps of the Lakes...?
Is there perhaps another Helvellyn (probably pronounced "Elle-vell -eeen-ah ") somewhere in France ?
