Put me down for 90.7kg.
179lbs = 81.7kg
This was fully clothed (in last year's official weigh-in outfit) and means I'm 4lb lighter than this time last year, when I'd been seriously dieting / training hard for a month already and 8lb lighter than New Year 2011). Quite pleased really. Not sure of a target but I was hovering around 174lb early last summer and that equates to 79kg. I reckon I can do a bit of something assuming Tesco don't have a BOGOF on Jaffa Cakes soon :closed:

Been out the last two nights at 9pm to do a 5 mile with 900 ft climb run at under 10:30 minute mile. Crazly I have dropped two Kg since Monday morning, RunKeeper reckons that run is worth 780 calories does anybody know a rough formula for calculating calories burnt during a run?
I know the only truly accourate way is to take a blood sample to measure the sugar content in the blood

I usually reckon on 650 to 800 cals per hour of anything fairly hard: mountain biking, fell running, hill walking, but then I don't even wear a watch when running :closed:

83.5kg
so 1 down, 3.5 to go
was hoping to have lost more already by now, but knee prob has restricted my running mileage and I've carried on eating like a pig
Scramble the rock face through the glare of morning sun — to run
I think a very rough estimate is 100 kcals per mile for an average male of average weight (whoever he is). That's net calorie burn (over and above the calories you would have burned sitting on your sofa).
It doesn't account for height gain. You could bring in Naismith to let you equate 2000ft with 3 miles, which I think would work reasonably well. It also doesn't account for speed, although that seems to have a smaller effect on calorie burn than you might imagine.
There are so many variables that I don't think it's worth trying to work it out accurately. But to be within a ballpark is enough that you know whether a run equates to half an apple or double cake.
So your 5 miles & 900ft is very roughly 635 kcal.
They say you need a 500kcal defecit per day to lose 1lb a week.
This may shed some light on the situation. Or add confusion...
