    this is very odd
    the forecast is quite good
maybe a bit windy early on, but by the time we reach Y Gribin (which I assume is the bit they're worried about) it should've dropped
if they send us up Cwm Tryfan instead, we'll be exposed to any high winds for LONGER along the top of the Glyders
is there another way they could send us?

I think they'll probably just change their minds back again...

The emails state that they'll avoid the Glyders section, I would have thought that by the time we reach there the weather should be improving! When I called the number quoted on the website for last minute messages I was told there would probably be changes but to proceed to the start as norm, no mention of avoiding the Glyders! I know the weather was atrocious today and the whole race would have been called off, but tomorrow should be better and improving as the day goes on so surely the start section willl be the worst effected. Dissapointing.

I fear the decision has already been made: .... 'the race director has decided that the route ascending Glyder Fawr WILL NOT be used'. Yiannis

    That's a bummer I've stashed some food en-route!

I guess we'll just revert to the 4 peaks route then
not the end of the world
my first time anyway, so might be quite nice to do it "old-stylee", then I can do the full 5 next year!

just need to go and print out an extra 1:25000 map section...

    Re: Welsh 1000s Race

Seems a very strange decision as the weather forecast isn't that bad at all for tomorrow. It's been bad today, but tomorrow is a different day! But then again, I'm not in the same position as the race organiser and it's easy for me to say that without the responsibility if something goes wrong.

So, the old route, does that go up to Llyn Bochlwyd, over Bwlch Tryfan and on the Miner's Track down to the Pen-y-Gwryd? Or does it go up Cwm Tryfan and onto the Miner's Track? Never been that way and never thought about recceing alternative route choices...

Strange.. why don't they use the old route.. very early call, forecasts look good.. winds should be 20-30 mph by lunch.. when people will get there.. even 40-50 on the Gribin isn't an issue.. its a wide ridge.. a lot of guides have a policy of 30mph cut off for crib goch.. which is a much more serious proposition..

If they are that concerned.. delay the start by an hour.. run in better weather..

Aye, I've always found it easy making a call on such decisions when being located more than 3500 miles away from that spot.

Forescast changed, it was still torrential rain at 1100hrs at the Baywatch 10k so who know's how it was on the Carneddau.

Quite a few came over to do Baywatch after finding out the Carneddau had been dropped, apparently in place they ran on that minor road from Aber - TalyBont, past Hendre Hall, Llanllechid, Bethesda and along the cycle track to Ogwen!!!....shame if I'd have know that would've done it!
