Thread: Begginer!

    Begginer!

    Hi,

My name's Mark and I would love to get into Fell Running.

I currently live in a town called New Milton, between Southampton and Bournemouth and was wondering if there is anywhere in the New Forest area where a beginner could get into it?

    Thanks,

    Mark

You should fit in well Mark, they're all crap spellers on here.
Tao begets one. One begets two. Two begets all things.

There's the IOW series in September.
Also worth checking the LDWA Challenge events - the Dorset Coastal Path offers some real challenge in climbing and off-road running.

There's the Purbeck Plod 25 miles/c4000ft in June - I may be down that way for that all being well. Don't be put off by the word 'Ramblers'!... http://www.eastdorsetramblers.org.uk/purbeckplod.html

Also Charmouth Challenge - up to Golden Cap or nearer to home may be Butser Hill Challenge in September at Queen Elizabeth Forest Park http://www.butser.org/.

Very short notice I know, but next Sunday is the Meon Valley Plod - 21 miles off-roader with some steep hills and plenty of mud - about as close to fell running as you can get in this part of the world. Postal entries have closed, but there is a late entry hotline on 07976 426247.

If you miss this, LDWA 'New Forest Marathon' on Mar 3rd is good fun - mainly for walkers but very welcoming to anyone who wants to run it.

If you are reasonably happy with map and compass you might also like the Southampton orienteering club events - mainly in the new forest.
