Aye.. if Brechin as in Angus.. sod the running and just go and watch Brechin City.. biggest team in Angus, but also the best pies in the Scottish league..

But are you on Strava? If so you can see my runs I do. The main area is Drumtochty forest, I do a 11 mile loop in there, but you can also access the back end of it through fetterosso by heading up to Stonehaven... they are your pretty standard forestry trails, nice running and nice area, very quiet. http://www.strava.com/activities/111954677

The closest munro is probably up Glen Esk and access Mt Keen, a steady plod up, will be in snow at the moment. But from Glen Esk you can go miles on all the hunting trails, loch lee etc.

There's also loops in south drumtochty I think they call it, the main area is at the back of the castle but I also run in forest the other side, nearer fettercairn.

Hills wise you've got the angus glens, which Shaunetto will know loads of runs, but also Clachnabenn is great, just over Cairn a Mount road at the back of Fettercairn. That's a lovely run up to a granite tor, about 600m high.

A cracking road run is the drumtochty circuit, 15 miler, fettercairn > auchenblae then around drumtochty to clatterin brig and back to fettercairn..

Yes Shaun its Angus, thanks Iain much food for thought. Am going skiing in Glenshee but may take a day off to get some good hill training in. If not its a few night runs with the headtorch.

I'm off to Norway for the week on Sunday, so not really about otherwise I'd suggest a joint expedition. (When are you there to?)

From Brechin I'd head up Glen Lethnot, you don't really need a defined route up there. Just a preference for tussocks. Not sure what the snow conditions are like out that way. My last trip out was West(Glencoe), and since my last (early Jan) visit to Glen Clova, a lot of snow has fallen.

You even get a lunch shed in Glen Lethnot http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/320824

Iain's suggestion of Drumtochty forest and Clachnabenn tend to be less snowy.

    Hmm, Sunday.

    Gusts up to 100mph.

    You'll need a wind proof.

Ahh, drop us a PM next time your up if you'd like some company on a run.

One other thing, I'm a member of a club that owns a hut in Glen Clova. This was the feedback from last weekends guests in the hut.

Drive up was interesting , Saturday was avalanche city , Sunday was stunning not stable enough to climb.

    Hi guys,

Had a nice week skiing and managed a few runs. Went to Drumtochty Forest with my little one for a walk around and some compass practice. Had a 5 mile circuit which step brothers/brother in laws had done so had a couple of runs round there to decimate their times. Did a decent hill session at Brown/White Caterthuns (i think)which was a good up down up down run. Shaun will pm when i come again, probably be summer now.

ps The Skiing at Glenshee was good as well, even got up a Monroe at Glas Moel.
