Turbo Trainer tonight.
Unusual to have an eating strategy. Anyway, 2 1/2hrs in so far.

Turbo trainers, invented by the Spanish inquisition.....
I'm rating this experience as moderately miserable

An enjoyable 10 mile in a snowy Kentmere for me today
Impressive ! Ime 20 years older than you and think I undertrained last year, what sort of quite hilly mileage do you think I should be doing for 12 to 15 mile Fell Races.Even though I have ran Fell for years I think I have got a bit complacent about how much I should do.tags.

12-15 miles, I'd say 50-60+, everyones different though, one mans poison is another mans nectar and all that. Depends what you think your weakness is?
Good solid 3rd week of marathon training. 3rd week in the Boston count down..
m: 3 miles easy just before a blizzard, rest day.
t: 16 miles, lunch 4 steady. pm: track, w/up 4 mile, then 4 x 400's (4:50-5:00 pace), 100m jog, then 2:30 between sets x 4.. then c/d, 12 total.
w: 17 miles steady, low 7's pace
t; lunch: easy 4. pm: 9 miles on cycle way 6:50 pace
f: 2 mile warm up 2 x 4 mile temp (5:55-6:00 pace out into a blizzard and 5:45-5:30 pace back) 2 mile c/d, 12 total.
s; easy 10 mile trail run
s: 16 mile fairly hilly road and trail run 6:23 pace. probably another 3-4 later then sauna and stretching to make it low 90's for the week..
I was right, not doing enough ! My weakness ? Well last year I wasn't seeming to getting the distance but have in the past ( top ten Jura and 3.35 3 Peaks.Did 42 week before last which is ok for time of year but I will have to keep it up, I will add a few long days on the Mountain Bike .Your mileage is impressive but takes so much of your time up,everything has to work round it , I can't knock your commitment ! In my defence when you get mid fifty@some the motivation starts to wain a bit....a lot ! Good luck with The Boston.
I live on the flat though, so 90 miles is about 10-12 hours of my time.. and that's normally including 1 slowish trail run a week, but the bulk of my miles here are roads or cycle ways.
no kids also.. I also teach a fair few days a week so can be out of school at 2:15 pm.. come home, lie on the couch for an hour or so.. then go out for 12-17 miles, back in the house by 7-8ish..
Certainly at this phase of my life 90-100 miles a week isnt a huge commitment. As I substitute teach I have little work to do outside of class and just a few lectures to plan for the Uni I lecture at as well..
3:35 at the three peaks is good going if you weren't getting decent miles in. I'd love to do it again, but its a really bad time in the year for me. I'm off work for 3 months each summer so tend to target races away then.
I'm not sure I can keep 90-100's up if we have kids but also just the wear and tear so will probably look to cross train more as I get towards 40. The long term plan is to move to New England so the winters will be spent XC skiing.. and more road biking. Even at the mid 30's I think 20+ years of competitive sport and near daily training, is starting to hurt.. :-)
Salazar said something about with 4 runs a week he could have a runner reach 90% of their potential, certainly there are top fell runners running 40-50 miles a week, plus biking and being very competitive, but when you chat to a lot of them they either came from success in another sport or had a high mileage block in their earlier years.. I think particularly gets ignored when people say 'X only runs 35 miles a week'.. but he'll have a strong CV system from previous high mileage periods.
