Everyone's gone international on the forum lately! I have sent you Tomo Sarf's email address by private message, he'll be able to advise. The LOC (that's European for RO) will be able to help find accomodation; they may offer to host you, or at least provide lifts to/from station/airport.
I went in 2011, when the race was sadly shortened due to the weather. After recovering, a few of us went to the top (including Orlando Edwards, who went last year as well). Emma Clayton went last year.
The race is of course uphill only. Tomo / the race team may offer to take a cag to the summit for you, but your kit bag will be at the hut 2/3rds of the way up.
The route is fantastic: after a short trail section, it is a steep alpine path (stony/sometimes slightly muddy and with big boulders all over the place), with only a few bits more like scree, then the top section is all on rocks. (It was covered in snow when I was there!). Of course it would be nice if the race was back down again!!
I was happy in my X-talons. There'd be no need for Mudclaw grip, but road-shoes would be pushing it unless it was bone-dry.
I am planning on doing the Grintovec mountain race this July. Does anyone who has done it before/been to the area have any advice on accommodation? I'm hoping to go for a week or so before the race day to appreciate the area for longer. Thanks in advance for any help.
