The 100 push up challenge
Ok, I'm going to give this a try.
Basically, the premise is that within 6 weeks you can go from being able to do as little as 15-20 press-ups (although it does say less) to doing 100, by following the training regime here:
http://hundredpushups.com/index.html
I've not done the initial test yet but I reckon I'll do about 20 - somewhat short of what I used to be able to do, but I am 30% heavier ().
I'm going to post my updates in here, but does anyone else want to try it as well? It only takes about 15 mins of your day 3 times a week

Re: The 100 push up challenge
Once got a bit obsessed with push ups and sit ups a few years ago. Literally did hundreds every day. Think 220 push ups was the most I could manage in one go. Kept it up for 4 or 5 months.

:eek::eek:
As predicted, I managed exactly 20, so looking to build on that now. Will be a long long time until I reach 220 though! Losing a stone or two wouldn't go amiss I suppose!

Re: The 100 push up challenge
Yea, I'ii have a go, just done 20 so i'm rank 3 on the chart thing. 220 Ady , I'm well impressed, and thats the first time I've said that about you:D

"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7..."
*spies fitty in the gym*
"98, 99, 100! Phew. Hey good lookin'."
I'm up for a piece of this action. Reckon I'm between 30-45 at the mo'.

Re: The 100 push up challenge
Great stuff - John Doe, you're exactly the same as me so it'll be interesting to see how we both progress

Re: The 100 push up challenge
The push ups were all a little pointless really. Even after doing thousands my shoulders did not really change in the way they looked. At least the sits ups gave you visible abs (when done in conjuction with no pies) and helped with core stability which is useful for runners.
Anyone for a sit up challenge, I could get back into them.......................

Have a look on that site - there is a 200 sit-up challenge which I'm going to do after the push up one.
As for push-ups, the main increases in muscle should be across the chest, triceps and back rather than the shoulders. Doing military presses is probably the best way to get Herculean shoulders.

Ooh, close! 43. All good form. Last couple didn't count, as not so good.

Re: The 100 push up challenge
Ady, would be interested to know what you were looking for looks wise from your press ups. The emphasis on the muscles worked varies on a sliding scale with hand position: under chest/bis; shoulder width/chest; wider/tris.
For this I've done shoulder width. Everyone else?
If you want traps that touch your ears, try shrugs. For lats like bat's wings, try lat pull downs, or wide-grip overarm pull ups.
Anyone for a 50 pull up challenge?
-
Re: The 100 push up challenge
Yeah, shoulder width for me.

It was a mental thing. I remembered from 30 years ago my brother being able to do 100 press ups and I decided to have a go and I just sort of got carried away. Was not looking for any muscle build up. I was much better at sit ups though - could do 'em all day - remember 1 session where I got a friction burn/blister at the base of my spine, think that was a 2000 day.

Re: The 100 push up challenge

Re: The 100 push up challenge
Finally decided to read this thread and gave the initial test a bash not expecting anything impressive.
I was shaking like a lemon at 17 and had had enough at 20. Need to work at that. Can do plenty of sit ups so will be better at that. ;)
Any one ever done the 'sit up bleep test' - thats a killer.

It's like the running bleep test. You do situps in time to beeps - one at the top and one at the bottom. As time progresses, the beeps get faster until you can't keep in time with them.
I've seen many people complete it but I've never seen anyone complete the running one. MOTWYW.

Ah. Done something similar only they never got faster, just used to keep time. For sit-ups this was fine but for the press ups it meant time at the top of the move just drains your strength.
Also done pull-ups where the up and down move were to bleeps (*bleep* up, hold, *bleep*, down, hang).
Those gaps between bleeps HURT!
