Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
Well done all who completed this year's race.
I have so much respect for Rob Jebb for even starting. He had crashed at a cyclo cross race the previous Sunday, dislocating his shoulder. He must have been in some pain. He told no-one about it and made no excuses, but was clearly unable to descend in his usual fashion especially down Pen Y Ghent.
Come back next year and take the trophy back Rob.
ps, I got pipped by Brett by 4 seconds !

Not wishing to take anything away from Nick Craig, great win, but this race is painful enough without a dislocated shoulder, solid effort by Rob Jebb, respect:cool:

I didnt and i appologise.
Since my knees have been behaving over the last 6 weekends, ive been getting up to the lakes for a long run.
So i havent touched the bike in ages....and a 100 mile round trip after a race the day before would have slaughtered me.
I was there in thought though.;)
Ive been wondering for ages....does everyone still use clip in pedals for this?
Surely the running part will just trash your cycling shoes and the cleats?

i did see one guy in a pair of swoops....but i'd reckon 99.5% are in mtb shoes and mtb style spd type pedals,
c. 18 miles of road
there isn't really any running involved unless your in the top few....I've never seen anyone run at all though I was 1 hour and 10 mins behind the winner.....at most it's a quick walk with bike or short step trotting along

I ran down the Swine Tail.

Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
hmmm... interesting...downhill running carrying a bike vs downhill riding ?

I ran down the steep, for me unrideable bits... managed to overtake a few men during my descent of Whernside, transpired it was much faster to just shoulder the bike and run rather than getting on and off all the time... Same again on Pen-y-ghent. Pretty much rode the whole of Ingleborough...
I lost my left cleat. I suspect the bolts/screws in it loosened themselves from the pressure put on the forefoot of the shoes while ascending carrying the bike...

Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
yep, it would be certainly interesting to see the how the quicker riders tackle certain sections
obviously what terrain is rideable for one person may not be for another...which is the quickest though ?

Exactly! It would be intreesting to see how ther top guys tackle certain sections.
My lack of off road bike handling skills meant that I was certainly faster running with the bike at times and as I overtook some riders while doing so, I reckon it was definitely the right decision to get off. One guy uttered some unrepeatable words when I passed him, running, carrying the bike while he was trying to ride down thinking he was going quite fast no doubt!

Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
think whernside offers the most trouble/ choices/ chances of benefitting from improvement...
my decision making process is usually a split second...that looks gnarly :D....off and trotting...better to survive than crash n puncture:)
though I think. if braver/ more confident I'd ride more and be quicker
also on whernside I'm always seeing riders way off to the left and right of the main rocky path on 'secret' rideable trails...
must make the effort to recce it one year

Yes, I saw someone way off to the right actually, running... It looked as if he had come off the fell race route, carrying his bike, and I was wondering if there was scope for that for me as well...
Obviously, I need to improve my off road riding skills as well... I only had the whole of 5 training rides before the race  So I am sure I will do better next year... But may just dive off the summit of Whernside with the bike on my back and cut streight down to the valley and the rideable bit to the viaduct... Hmmm, I can feel another recce coming up!

Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
Sorry to drag this up again.Looking at doing this next year, quite encouraged that Neal crampton finished 3rd,comparing his time with mine at the c-y-b duathlon over the last 2 years.
How hard is it to get an entry ? Is it just a case of,if you get your act together you should get in.Is their any previous cross experience required etc
Thanks RR
-
Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
as long as you enter on the day, you'll be fine
some cx experience is usefull...though the actual race is not like any other cx race....just put details of relevant'ish experience
-
Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
There's always a healthy dose of first timers. It was my first time and first cross race, and I'd agree it's unlike any other 1h blast in a municipal park.
It's succumbed to 'entries now open!' internet frenzy, so you do need to get in sharpish. There's a previous experience section to fill in, but I've no idea how fierce any pre-selection criteria are. Might have to have another go now :)
