Stonking 'torcher up the Beacon in the snow. A fella in a 4 x 4 wound down his window and said, 'you must be bonkers' just as we hit the top road. We were giggling all the way back home

3m with dog and wearing wellies, better grip than mudclaws, jogged all the way, zero wellie slap:thumbup:
My 'headtorcher' this morning took place at 4am and involved taking the wire out of the smoke alarm that had been set off by a power cut! Soooooooooo glad I had it to hand (far more helpful than NPower who told me that they knew there was a fault and would try to have it sorted by about 10am!)
:sneaky:
A full moon head torcher up the Beacon with friends followed by drinks in the Swan snug. Still a bit of snow about here and there.
1.52 with Tony and Ian was a freezing cold night.
Quick 3m with pooch, very icy out there, bedtime for some now:closed:

5.5 miles through woods, Shipley Glen, back through woods. Was a bit like driving through fog with the snow and rain but very enjoyable nonetheless. Especially as it was my first run back in three weeks due to an injury :)
A very spooky, sloppy and claggy trot over Hobson Moor on my own. Still a bit of snow about.
Short run through Hardcastle Crags and over Heptonstall Moor. Very icy, and fog so thick I nearly ran into a parked car coming back into Heptonstall.
Tuesday, gang of runners and walkers (ex runners) started from Queen Cath, Osmotherley, over to oakdale reservoirs, square corner, back of chequers, cod beck, sheep wash, up to radio masts, lady chapel then back to queen cath, cracking night, full moon, solid ground, freezing cold, and then a pint of Wainrights, it doesn't get any better.
Last night a group of Bowland Bats managed 7 or 8 miles from Stoops Bridge in Abbeystead via Higher Lee and the shooting tracks ( gravel was frozen solid but not icey ) to the west trig on the Ward's Stone plateau. A fair sprinkling of snow and a tad claggy when higher up. On the open moor, any protruding rocks were covered in a thick coating of verglass but were avoidable; Kahtoolas stayed in the 'sac!
Short hour on the local hill, thick fog, first run of the year when I left in daylight. Well, gloom, murk maybe
Around 15 Bowland Bats out tonight around "The Tolkein Trail" from Hurst Green. 7 very muddy, slippery miles of heavy going along the W bank of the Hodder and the N bank of the Ribble. A select band of 7 then retired to the Trishna curry house in Whalley to consume "The Fires of Mordor"!
Another fab Beacon torcher followed by drinks in the Swan snug. I could get used to this :)
The Wharfe is bursting her banks; the snow further up must be melting. I'd love to see the Strid and the rest of the Bolton Abbey section just now.
5 reps up Heptonstall hill with 3 Hurriers; as we ran up and down we removed all the bottles and cans that had built up since 2 weeks ago (missed last week doing reps in snow, on skis, in alps). Based on my collection I can deduce that local chavs smoke Lambert and Butlers, drink Fosters, read the Star, eat a mixture of McDonalds and chocolate and have no idea what an amazing place they live in. Going to get a running clean up trend across the town....must do those steps up from Hebden before the Hobble.
Recruited 2 more for the 26 mile Mag7 on Sunday:thumbup:
Good for you Trig. It really grieves me to see the amount of crap people leave behind in beautiful places ..... I get sick of seeing it. The thing that irritates me most of all is when I see discarded underwear (male and female) in some secluded spot, frequently with an accompanying condom. Presumably it was too difficult to pick up after a moment of passion? Drives me nuts and I'm sorry, I'm not going to pick THAT up without one of those litter-picking thingys.
Have you tried the Lost and Found section of the forum Martyn?
Well, I really wasn't being that charitable. It never occurred to me that any forum members would dump their underwear in the the countryside :) Perhaps I should .....
"Found behind drystone wall next to gate leading onto Round Hill: 1 pr ladies pants, white with polka dots. 1 pr tights, grubby. 1 pair gents boxers, were white at some point"
Or something like that :)
I was already thinking about maybe heading off weekly with a binbag & stout gloves to pick up rubbish along the River Weaver before I saw trig's post. Good for you, trig, & I hope a few more of us get out there & do something similar. Next person to do this, please start a new thread. Maybe it'll be me! Mind you, some of the stuff that comes down the river will take some serious picking up. Gas bottles? Not sure I could even carry one.
Thursday evening's feral Bat Run saw around one dozen Bowlanders depart Helwith Bridge for P-y-G via the Long Lane. Initially it was quite windy with "moisture in the air". By the base of the Southern Crags the rain was very heavy and the W wind must have been something like 60-70 mph. Parts of the crags were running with water and it was essential to hold on tight - not against falling under the force gravity, but against being blown E and further into Yorkshire. The summit trig was not a place for lingering about for too long
Its starting to feel like my headtorching season is almost over. I do my evening runs when I get home from work, most often at about 6:15pm, and last night it was almost light when I started and not quite proper dark when I finished. I must admit after what must be a winter of I dunno 70 or 80 odd headtorch evening runs I am really really looking forward to not having to run with my frigging headtorch for a while :)
And WD its very rarely not like that on Pen y Ghent ;)
A glorious run alongside a moonlit river with the headtorch lighting the way home.
Translates as... Went out too late, but ran down to the river as I'd planned anyway. Bugger all moon and what was there was behind clouds, and I didn't have a headtorch either...
Great run!
A tempo run head torcher with DT (out in daylight, back in the dark) along the Wharfe to the Friends Meeting House has lifted my spirits tonight. Negative splits are not within my reach at the moment but I now have a target to aim for; 4 minutes to take off a 37 minute run with a negative split thrown in....hum....could this be achieved by the end of March? :o
Lately work has been getting in the way of running but this is going to stop....grrr! Tomorrow will see us back at the White Lion
4m hilly headtorcher with hound, sweating buckets, it's like summer:thumbup:
Around 18 Bowlanders met at the Langden Intakes for "The Trough Skyline" ... up the UU track past the Intake buildings then N up the open fell to Top o' Blaze Moss, down to the summit of the Trough of Bowland road, Whinns Brow trig, top of the Ouster Rake path, PBW down to Trough Barn, public highway through Sykes to Langden Intakes. Not quite 5 miles but very wet, peaty & tussocky ... Bowland just as it should be.
I was supposed to go and do a little race thing last night but somehow I drove right past the pub where everyone was meeting without seeing it (I'm blaming oncoming headlights and a car up my 'arris) so I ended up doing some not-very-hilly training instead, all on my own.
Still, t'was better than nowt!
Had a short walk last night to test out the new search torches issued to the MR team
Lensor X21R
of course you wouldn't run with it but for you gear freaks.....1600 lumins, I could pick out sheep, trees etc nearly a kilometer away on the other side of the valley.
