Do not despair. You'll be swapping fat for muscle, which weighs more than fat as you probably already know.
Take measurements around your bust, waist, hips, thighs and upper arms and monitor these. If you manage to measure in the same place each time you'll see a difference.
The fat will go but it might take a while for this to show on the scales.
Keep at it OHW you're doing fab

Re: Overweight Confessions

Yikes if it's not as little as 9st 9 just what is the altar of lightness for a climber? Out of interest what would it be for a 5'5'' female - or more to the point a 5'5'' frmale who has half an eye on Broad Stand?

For me I think 57 kilos but thats going to be hard.
A 5ft 5 female in cycling would be very thin, maybe 53kilos id say. But you dont need to be like that for a BG, def not.
Stef I dont really like to talk about weights for women as its very personal.
You are the same height as me, suppose 60 kilos ?

Re: Overweight Confessions
Well im gorging myself on cake, biscuits and chocolate as this will make all my insecurities go away.
Fat people are needed in a society-when the apocalypse happens (it si coming) and the human race reverts to cannabalism then we need our fatties

It's ok it was a rhetorical question so no need to feel cornered! I thought you meant climbing not cycling...a climbers condition would probably be ideal for a BGR or mountain marathons. Anyway, I've no idea whether I can meet my BGR goal but I'm going to work towards it and see how I go.
My target weight is set and declared somewhere above and is based on personal not very far distant history. 8 1/2 stone which I think equates to 55 kilos. I used to have a fairly stable weight of 8st 4 (around 52/53 kilos, so skinny cycling weight; akin to a road marathon runner I guess which was my sport at the time) but my ribs and shoulder blades stuck out and I was often accused of being too bony.
I'm not going to go beserk over this...when it feels right I'll stabilise and lose no more.

Very wise Stef :)
I have always been "curvy" which is fine with me, but at the moment am a little more curvy than I would like to be.... A bit less curvy and I will have lost enough
(Oh but 8st 4lb I haven't been since I was about 12 probably :o)

Re: Overweight Confessions
Sorry guys but I just ate about 20 chocolates! :o
I ain't obsessing over it. Once back running properly the weight will come off without dieting. I spent far too many years denying myself food when I was younger. Now I loves my grub!
I'm 5'9", 135 lb or 9st 9lb but in a few weeks time it'll naturally drop to around 130lb or 9st 4lb.
Come on lads n lasses.....enjoy yourselves...don't starve....life's too short to be denying yourselves the things you love.....just exercise aplenty and you'll be reet! :thumbup:xxx

Re: Overweight Confessions
Well said MG!!
I don't possess scales because I know I'd be jumping on and off them every two minutes and would probably end up with an eating disorder. Since I'm no longer thinking in terms of numbers I have actually been able to enjoy food and eat proper meals without feeling guilty or starving myself. I think commonsense, a bit of knowledge about what foods are healthy and listening to your body when it says its full is all you need if you train regularly.

Arrested the slide and only lost 1lb this wk (well actually, 0.6lb, but rounding errors...). At the same time, body fat fell by 0.4%, so all's good. Probably would have lost more but for a week of disturbed eating & training routine due to being on the road and in hotels for a good part of it. BMI 22.8.

By some sadist going at you with a pair of calipers and pinching your wobbly bits.

A few pages back I posted a link which works it out based on body measurements. I've got some scales which work it out by sending an electric current through your body. How accurate? Who knows, but as long as it is consistent in its inaccuracies, it should be good enough to pick up the general trend.

I use them as well, but there is a slight problem. The minute electric current will follow the path of least resistance so doesn't measure your upper body (just goes up one leg and down the other). If I balance on the scales with one hand and one leg I get a reading a few % different from standing normally. Not a major flaw but still....

DT gave me a skirt for Christmas. It was too big so he sent it back and ordered a size smaller to replace it. I got the replacement today......I've lost some lard and the smaller one is as big on me as the original :w00t::thumbup:
