I have not had any Questionnaire, never mind one less thing to fill in.
Just a point about the Puma trailfox, just to back skarsnik up.If it is wet or even damp i will not be wearing the trailfox, they are lethal in the wet ! I would rather wear road shoes than them.I Think they have made the sole with a hard material to prevent wear, but this makes them rubbish for grip. Will be wearing some inov8 320 if wet although they are not great in the wet either ! Would wear my 280's but not enough cushioning and slightly flat and clompy for such a long descent.I just hope it's dry.
Still undecided myself rodders. May just sod it and go for my walshes. There's quite a bit of grass if you get the right line. A fair few of us have been out over the last week testing shoe options, much money spent and wasted..:-)
Hi CL,not sure about soaking socks, will cool for a while but surely will soften feet and cause blisters that way ! Might just plaster feet on known hot spots ! Iain i tend to get sore feet with my walshes on any long hard descents, around my sole and towards my heels.I can see the dilemma mind, needing a shoe thats tight and stops movement in the shoe, but has cushioning and grip and role and lightweight
What are you doing this weekend as prep ? I'm in two minds whether to do Fan y big or go and recce Snowdon early hours of sun morning before the walkers !
ps.I agree with the shoe expense,i ran Moel y gamelin race other week and took 5 pairs with me not knowing which to choose ! Who says it's a cheap sport.
I'm doing my usual tapering..so will do Siabod Race Saturday and the Orme Uphill 5 K Race Sunday, Race the train 5k Wednesday and Snowdon Race next Saturday. I find I run best of high mileage high racing.
Been up and down the route a few times now. Will do it once more as it changes a lot, new path sections, new fence sections..
I was talking to Stan Charles and i here you will be wearing a different colour vest next week....a little red number rather than your usual green !! Well done
right!
questionnaire returned ages ago
campsite booked
training done (finished last at Tal Y Fan :D )
gentle trail race this weekend (Gravy 6)
Mizuno Harriers for me (or possibly Mizuno Ascends if I decide to opt for something more "roady")
sub-2hrs or bust!
The shoe debate will go on forever I think it just comes down to personal preference. I used Adidas road shoes two years back and they was great. Last year I used innov8 Roclite 315's and wasn't very impressed by them at all. Planning on Nike road or trail shoes this time still can't decide.
How many of us have carried a boot full of shoes like Rodders Rambler? Me for one with just in case....
I've definitely not received a questionnaire. Maybe it's only for the Welsh, or those who speak Welsh, or who's names sound Welsh, or those that have a bit of Welsh in them somewhere.
entered snowden for first time. no idea which shoes i will need i am camping at llwyn celyn bach campsite from early wednesday morning so if anyone could help me out finding a map of the route i could check it out first. p.s. has anyone done the green green grass of home run, i wondered if it would be worth the 40 mile drive from llamberis camp site wednesday night
i'll buy you a pint after the green green grass fellboy if you make it, not done the race myseilf either but have heard great things
had a questionnaire last year but not this year...mind you I was working in Wales last year
I had a questionaire a few months back. The same as last years.
Yeah cheers, got my letter through this week. Stan's some runner up hill, the start of Tal Y Fan was embarrassing as him and Rob left me for dead. Bit worried as I'm not running as well now as I was in May.
Fellboy: The route is obvious. Just follow the Llanberis path, no map needed. It's a landrover sized track all the way. The path that runs up near the railway on the OS map.
Re GGGofH yeah worth doing, I drove from here last year and thought it worth the drive, I take it changes a bit each year from what fellrunner says, but nice run, nice area/organisation.
i've had no questionaire
will probably make it to green green grass, but teatotal harrymoon so i'll buy you a drink and get some tips on photography. just been looking ay your photostream. great photo's. just getting into photography myself since i took up fell running, got the equipment just can't use it yet
thanks iainr
fellboy - the Slug Family will be pitching up at Llwyn Celyn Bach on the Thursday evening - look out for 3 unruly children and the biggest tent in the world - that'll be us!
Swoop & I are going to potter up the first bit of the course on the Friday if you fancy a nosey at what's in store
sounds good to me daz, see you there
Just ran up to check out route, just a steady plod.Quite suprised at how runnable alot of it is.Whats the deal on route ? There are plenty of sections that you can use some nice grass sections that slightly cut the main track,is this allowed ? Not so much advantage going up but great for the descent.Looking forward to it,wore the trailfox which were ok,nothing steep enough to worry about grip despite the damp conditions.Bloody cold on top mind !
All snowdon runners should give this a go, before next week:)

Fast forward to 2mins 30secs
He might of broke the record, but his feet have been converted to charcoal.:D
mmm interesting fella !
Just checked out forecast, and after initial warming period mid week, looks like a return to cooler and wet weather for next weekend.
im hoping its hot , going to walk crib goch , then watch race whilst walking down llanberis path . best of luck to all who are in it .
A source of great debate in these parts!! :-)
I reckon most are OK, I asked one older gent in the club and his reply was 'well they can't disqualify us all'. I reckon the two obvious ones are fine. There's some good minor shortcuts just off the track which are obviously fine. The new fencing at the end of the track has caused a few issues as it makes one of the short cuts a bit trickier, so debatable how much of an advantage it is.
The main obvious one is now very very obvious as the alternative section on the track is now very badly eroded by the rains.
There's a good short cut at the top, but you miss out clogwyn tunnel so supposedly this will get you disqualified.
As I understand it, there isn't usually the need to carry waterproofs/map etc for Snowdon (at least there hasn't been for the last 3 years) - is it likely that they will want to check that gear's being carried if it's raining?
Hi all - as a member of the snowdon race committee, once again the race will be exactly the same as route last years. Up the path to the summit then down on the railway for a bit and rejoin the footpath. As the cafe is still not open, no trains will be goin to the summit. Maybe this would be the year for the record to broken?? as its the same route as back in 1985 (on the railway). Also there will be water station at halfway house. Thanks
Highlights will be on Sky chan.134 (S4C) on Sun at 1930
Looks like I won't be running this race due to twisted ankle and can't see it being okay for Saturday?
Neverthless if I can't run I shall be somewhere on route hopefully high up the mountain so plenty of smiles everyone for the camera.
Keep and eye out for Tracey taking piccies as well if she is okay she will be around the tarmac section just after the cattle grid on the first climb. Give her a wave she should be easy to spot?
Will try to raise a Smile & Wave Pinno as I'm powering uphill
Might have to shoot of Swoop after the race -will have to see
