That Mo can't half run
Well done Mo, fantastic run.....
nearly had a heart attack when that ethiopian started closing......
20 k in 1.25 is pretty quick - if you just look at their top half they are "running"; once they cross the finish line most broke into a run for a few steps as they slowed down. Apparently most of them are running if viewed in slow motion - but they can only be judged to have run if it is obvious to the naked eye! I though quite a few of them were running!
well done mo ! cl what are your thoughts on double olympic gold medaller mo ?
Mo, Mo, Mo, Mo, Mo, sheer brilliance, Taught the ugali-eaters (Kenya & Ethiopia) how to do it!
Crammy - nice commentary too!
legend Mo superb...
Brilliant run Mo
Way to go......Mo:w00t:
Well dun Jaamaycaa!
Another medal for Team Yorkshire in the boxing!
Bronze for Daley!! That diving competition was incredible. How those guys perform under that pressure is beyond me - four years work comes down to 1.6 seconds!!!
I was a cynic before the games, but I've loved every minute of them. Highlights for me have to be Wiggins, Farah and the men's gymnastics.
Totally agree.. I'd hate to exist in a constant state of miserable cynicism and would far prefer to believe in achievements and occasionally be disappointed when cheating is discovered. It hurts but well worth the trade off in my book.
Performance of the day yesterday goes to Emily Batty in the Women's XC MTB.. I was wondering why she was so far off the pace as she's 6th in the World but it turns out she raced on a broken collar bone.

It would be interesting to hear the lab's response to these allegations. As usual, things are not as clear cut as they initially seem.
Michael Johnson and Ian Thorpe were excellent commentators - unlike others they dared to say what they thought, rarely stated the obvious, and often made interesting observations. One concept I did disagree with was the idea of tactics during the 200 metres - there was talk of good and bad transitions, and acceleration late in the race; running around a bend is something we can do from the age of about two, and surely you start as fast as you can and keep it up as long as you can. Like the 100 metres, the tactics are dead simple; executing them is what is difficult.
I'm really not cynical or bitter. Last night I got tremendous joy from watching, start to finish, Tom Daley take bronze in the diving; nearly as much as that big juicy steak I was telling vegan about. I didn't see the Men's triathlon but my other half told me the Brownlees performed brilliantly so well done to them.
After saying all that however I can't sit back and say nothing whilst a big fraud is being perpertrated. 25 years ago a talented sprinter called Ben Johnson burned the field to run 9.83 in the 100m. Most of those who knew it was dodgy didn't say a word but Carl Lewis spoke out and was branded as a 'bothersome, muttering cynic' in all likelyhood. A year later Johnson ran 9.79 and tested positive at Seoul. Today we have Bolt - another talented sprinter stumbling out of the blocks and running 9.6.
So we're presented with the idea that one talented sprinter without anabolic steroids can run much faster than another talented sprinter on anabolic steroids. Well I say I don't believe it. If that makes me a 'bothersome, muttering cynic,' then I'll take my big juicy steak and eat it.......with Carl Lewis!
I believe that he is on EPO. I also believe the top African runners have been on EPO for two decades and by joining them that was the only way he could compete. It took him 5 years to get down to 13.30. During some of those he couldn't break 14 minutes, yet now he can put two sub 13.30 runs together for the 10000m.
EPO can take more than one minute off a 5km time and two minutes off a 10km time. With those sorts of benefits can the top runners compete without it when the testing is fairly easy to bypass for anyone but the 'dopey dopers?'
The labs concerned have had plenty of time to reply but I have not been able to find anything. If only small amounts of EPO are used they would be undetectable by the methods shown but also ineffective. That of course does not make it acceptable. There may well be methods of detection that they are keeping from the general public, and more importantly, the athletes. They are keeping samples for years these days - surely in that time if there was an attempt at a cover up one or two honest people in the system would spill the beans? Or as C L says am I being naive?
I think you are being too harsh CL on quite a few issues but fair play you are recognising some of the decent performances and calling them correctly.
1) You state that EPO can take 1 / 2 mins off your times but where is your evidence for this? On what do you base this, I accept the idea that EPO will improve you but I don't know by how much.
2) Your comments on Mo, I think are unfair. You are missing out the fact that he has changed coaches, moved to a different area and generally decided to do lots of things differently. If a person is good but missing out on that extra 'oomph', wouldn't a change of coach, scenery, attitude improve him. You say that oomph is EPO, I disagree, each to their own ideas.
3) Usain Bolt takes less strides than others, if a tall person with a long stride moves their legs at the same rate as a short person with shorter strides, the tall person will win and be quick. Bolt has a proven record over a number of years from winning the junior world championships (I think that's right) so he is not a suddenly quick runner.
4) You talk about Carl Lewis being called a cynic, yet he failed drugs tests at the olympic trials before the Ben Johnson race. You mention people who 'suck up to druggies' but appear to be doing the same.

These XC boys are flying
I've only been 'racing' since May 2011. Since then I've taken well over 2 minutes of my 5k and nearly 5 off my 10k.
All I know about EPO is that they wrote Mr. Blue Sky.
