Might be able to find some sand dunes some where. Well i suppose it builds up the leg muscles.
IanDarkPeak posted a thread about running several weeks last year on a beach whilst on his hols over summer. Helped him to strengthen up after an injury he tells me. Mind you, he was in Florida at the time....
Lovely long empty beaches and some big sand dunes around. These are great training. Steve Ovett (and many others) did a lot of beach and sand dune running to good effect. Also don't underestimate the benefit of running in the constant wind off the North Sea.
In my adolescence, at my running best and before my 20 year break I lived in the North East of England and I think running on the beach and seemingly constantly running in strong winds were important factors in what ability I had then (also lots of miles and Sunderland Harriers). Who knows where it went though?
So if anyone finds my ability lying around, it blew out sometime in 1985, please pass it on. :D

Sheepwash car park Osmotherley, to Carlton Bank (1st checkpoint of Lyke Wake race) and back. 12 miles.
Really didn't feel like doing anything today as been feeling a bit down lately, probably just over tired, but forced myself to get out there into the lovely sunshine :D
Just a 8.5mile walk today - Pendle summit from Barley via Ogden Clough & Downham Moor - v dry up there at the moment though a tad windy on the top.
Another easy 3 on local forest tracks north of Drymen. Feeling a bit better than 2 days ago but still feeling heavey in the middle of my hamstrings by the end. Another easy jog on Sunday I think. Feeling good and enjoying being out.

6.5 mile last night on the mountain bike followed by 12.20 mile tonight on the bike again. Ready for running again on Sunday hopefully calf feels fine now.
Easy 6 miles part country lanes and canal towpath
1h 20mins on hilly roads, including 2 x 500ft climbs. Windy on the tops (felt cold) but v. warm in the valleys so was sweating buckets. Can't win with the weather! :(
Pulled my bloody quad and groin playin cricket today...thats ended my chance of going for a run tonight. And to make matters worse, we lost.
Easy 40 mins mostly along towpath and around Bramley Fall Woods.
Easy trot around the Whangie Whizz race route, 4.25 miles, 780 ft. Nice run, best I have felt all week.
Very dry on tops, even the peat bogs were only damp! We are living in worrying times.

20.08 miles/3748 total ascent, 3.39.35. One word, WINDY:eek: Not me, the weather, at one point i was running with a diagonal slant, when i got out of the wind i felt like a drunk, couldn't run in a straight line. Last 6 miles all downhill, but against the wind, hard bloody yardage, finished with ten minutes in river, enjoyed it that much i might go and do it again, the river, not the run;)
Nice run round the Wharfedale off-road marathon route yesterday. Looking forward to the race, just hope its not so windy.
7.5 miles. Longest run since mid Feb! Almost, very nearly, not injured! :)
helvellyn race 11 miles very windy on tops, found new sport stationary fell running, 45 degree running and being pinned against the rocks:D . First lakes race since Duddon last year and only 2nd fellrace this year.
4 very easy miles still windy. Legs do not feel too bad considering did Helvellyn race yesterday.
1st sess since mara, did 4 miles including, 6 hills all 1-2 minutes, with double that rest. Felt steady on all though not light or fast, but pleased with pushing a bit. Definitely on the up and feeling good so I'll try a tempo on the club hill run on Wed.

4 mile recovery run to work, if you can call Ripponden bank recovery:rolleyes:
1 mile trot home from workmates house, still windy out there:eek:
total for last 10 days 50 miles and 17,000 ft ascent, rather tired now now
nice week off work
'twas Helvellyn for me on Sunday 2 Pacman :)
so today have decided to take no heed of my aching legs and am aiming to jog to track ( 4 miles ), and if feel good when I get there do some parlofs to squeeze out the lactic acid and grit from Helvellyn
Easy 5 miles - down to towpath, around Bramley Fall Woods & back via hilly bridleway & road.
Last evening 5 miles and about 1500ft. Feeling strong so I am planning to have a run around Duddon:)
I'm Back;)
Had a great time in Scotland. Nearly all solo and apart from the first four hours of day 1 glorious sunshine.
Total for the 3.5 days
76 miles
26,500 ft
15 Munros plus various tops and Corbetts
Campsite were full of scots and continental camper vans but the hills were empty:D
Best of the lot was a 24 mile trip round Glen Lochay with 11,500ft which took just over 8 hours. The first four hours in thick fog with a chilling wind was excellent nav practice. Did 5 munros and didn't see a soul until the last hill.
Even saw an otter, the first i've seen in 25 years of walking the Scottish hills!! superb I'll post the others animals on the wildlife thread.
7 kms temporun on tarmac, in the pooring rain. Legs still a bit sore after Sundays fell race, but not too dissatisfied with the effort!
about 8miles vaguely around the lordstones race route in north yorkshire - legs did not feel good after - bacon and egg buttie some sorted that!
no weather was suprisingly good - didnt set off till mid day. Was much warmer than i thought it would be. some of the tracks and field before last climb were a bit damp but nothing to write home about - loads of people out to
5 miles 800ft ascent, very wet and wild out there :D
5.5 miles, 700ft, friendly inter club race, foray south of the Clyde for a run in Greenock. Nice race, steep climbs but lots of trail. Felt ok, pushing well up hill and feeling steady if not sharp. Not surprising less than 2 weeks after a mara I guess. Actually more surprised at how good I did feel.
As long as I am still moving tomorrow I think I will give Duddon a bash, aiming to just get round rather than racing hard (for me) and using it to get fit for Ennerdale.
Jason
5 mile steady to work up Old Ripponden Bank, 1 mile home in drizzle:eek: It's 00.30 what have i been doing since i got home at 10.30:confused:
A steady 11 miles around Ladybower with my daughter cycling along side.
3 miles fast !, find it hard to get runs in when it is the School holiday time
just a nice steady 25 minutes in fields and on roads, going to rest up until i launch my assualt on alderman on sunday :D
Nice easy 4 to get yesterday out of the legs. Its blooming hot out there. Rest tomorrow for Duddon now.
