Certainly hope it's faster (and warmer!)
Last year I did PPP in 3:19, this year did Trigger in 3:43. Felt about the same at the start of both (fit, fairly fresh but not overly). 2 very different races though.
Just past 700 entered
I'm in again...I think. Found it tricky to find the requisite races!! Not done much long fell stuff recently having turned slighty towards the longer stuff...Hardmoors, Bullock Smithy etc. Did Dresden Marathon but not in the 3hr 20m required!!? Seems a bit fast to be the qualifying time at 3hr 20min. I'm not too quick at 3hr 45min but can still get round Three Peaks in a good bit under 5 hrs.
Just out of curiosity, also thinking ahead to next year, but what are the previous race requirements to enter this? I might have to knuckle down if I want to tick this classic.
Any of these mate;
- Completed the Three Peaks Race in 2013, 2014 or 2015.
- Since Jan 1st 2014 completed at least two different Medium A, Long A or Long B Fell Races. Note – only FRA definitions apply.
- Runners who do not fulfil either of these requirements but who have endurance running experience should submit details on their entry - listing endurance races completed 2014 and 2015 e.g. road marathon within 3hrs 20mins.O.M.M. Elite A,B,Class or equivalent.
Thanks Calvin. Having not done any of the above, it gives me a focus for some of this years training & racing.
Is anyone after an entry? Can substitute mine if anyone needs one.
There are runners on a Waiting List who need a entry, please email [email protected]
This is from the 3 Peaks Website
If you need to substitute your entry please either
- Ask your substitute to register with the SPORTident Online Entries System at https://www.sportident.co.uk/entries/login/login.php and ask the substitute to tell you their SPORTIdent Entries ID that is emailed to them when they register. Go to the 'Update Your Entry' link https://www.sportident.co.uk/entries...?event_id=2584 and transfer your entry. Your substitute is then able to update the entry, specifying the correct club name and the qualifying races. Your fee will not be refunded but your substitute does not have to pay again.or
- Forward your entry acknowledgement email with 'Substitution Request' in the Subject line to the entries secretary at: [email protected] with a note to confirm that your entry is available for substitution and we will arrange a substitute runner from the Wait List

Great film, really enjoyed watching it. I see the route has changed slightly in parts, probably even tougher back then. Wetted my appetite for the race in a few weeks time.
Well? What fell shoes should I wear then? :) :) ;)
The ones with crampons.
Yesterday the weather forecaster (on Channel 4, if I remember rightly) was reminding us of the late-April snowstorm of 1981, although he didn't mention that one of its consequences was the cancellation of the Three Peaks race that year (which was then re-scheduled for October).
it was bad enough going up Whernside last year!
Hoping to have a bit of sun on my back this year :D
Less than a week to go now. What times are people hoping for? I did it in under 4 hours the last couple of times but am hoping for sub 5 this year as I'm not as fit now. Anyone got any experience of running just under 5 hours and care to share their checkpoint times?
This page on Three Peaks website giving checkpoint times and finish times may be useful to you

My race is still in the balance as I'm struggling with a back injury having recovered from reactive arthritis in my knee so I'm not in great shape. If I make it to the startline, my plan is to make the cut offs and get round seeing this as a stepping stone to getting fit again. My PR is 4.30 but if I can do it in 5 I'll be happy. It seems unlikely at the moment but you can never say never!
(its so annoying, this is the first year I'm running it now that I live in Horton...it feels like it should be 'my' race!)
First time for me, and barring anything spectacular or disastrous, I'll be somewhere between 4 and 5 hours. Hoping to be at the quicker end of that range if I'm honest, but will see on the day.
I'm doing the race having last run it (badly) in 2011 - time circa 4:40. One of the few times Hester's beaten me (or in this case hammered me) in a fell race ;). My fastest proper race time is something like 4:20 yonks ago but I ran round solo in 2012 in 3:55, when I was as fit as a butchers dog, so I'll have that pipe dream to aim for. I'll be happy with anything sub 4:30 to be honest
First time for me, aiming for sub 5/to finish it...
Fourth time for me, twice sub-4 hr and best 3hr49 when I first trotted round without a care in the world... Lack of training means if I get to the start line it'll be to just make it round and not hate every minute like last year! Not one to do on several nights very poor sleep.
This years my 10th on the trot, hoping for a pb but we'll see. Times have ranged from 4hrs 21mins to just under 5hrs. Been training well so hoping to stick to a 4hrs 10mins schedule, fingers crossed. Looking forward to it, just hope the weather is not as abysmal as last year,it was friggin bitter.
I'm running this for first time on Saturday. I'd like to get away with a bum bag rather than a vest/pack - so wondering whether I need to carry much liquid. Are there opportunities to get water on the course?
I watched a YouTube video that looked like there was some water containers on one of the climbs?
I think there are 4 water stations on the route, which is enough for me. If you drink lots you might need to carry something.
Nice one - thanks for the confirmation.
Maybe we should get a 5 hour autobus going on cut-off schedule :D
I should be OK to Ribblehead but always worry about the Hill Inn as Whernside is a pig. I think coming down is worse than going up :D
there are also water points at about 8 miles (high birkwith?) and Sulber Nick, as described in details.
For my 5 hour run I have decided I need to be at the top of Ingleborough with around an hour to spare. Wish me luck! Last time I did the race I descended Ingleborough in around 35 mins for a 3h39 finish.
Anyone else planning on doubling up with Great Hameldon the next day? I'm planning a Fishwicking weekend with Wray Caton Moor on the Monday as well!
It's a while since I did the PPP but thought Hill Inn checkpoint cut off was easier than Ribblehead. It depends on your flat speed versus climbing and descending (and how quickly you recover from climbing Whernside) I suppose. Don't be in a rush to start running the second you finish that tough climb is advice someone told me ;)
I'll see you all at the top of Whernside.
Hopefully without the snow this year!
Hope you are not too hung over from todays birthday celebrations Brett s

Hmmm...PyG is getting a covering, but we still have a couple days for it all to change ;) (just taken from in front my studio)
