We're hoping to have a burger van at High Brown Knoll
For anyone getting their hopes up, it was only a joke, sorry!
Clive,
Now I know whose footprints I followed yesterday morning. I did same and decided that going any further than you was dangerous. Came back down same route.
This morning I went up with a few club members. I was convinced the running would be better after the substantial thaw. Big mistake. The thaw caused the previous runnable bit to turn to ice cold slush that was ankle deep. Then the deeper snow was still ice hard on top.
Got to CP 1 and then decided to do the finishing loop. This was even worse, the snow got even deeper and slushier. Ended up cutting across the moor to get back to the outward track, and back to the start.
Took an hour to do 4.5 miles!
Linda,
If you get the burger van, can I request they serve ice cold "slush puppy" drinks!
Cheers.
Pencil in a recce this sat or sun? :)
Right if you are out on the half...do you want. Jelly baies, beans, chocolate, coffee or a variety
Linda
Today I've been above Todmorden on t'other moors doing the Tod Mini Mountain Marathon, and still not runnable in places. I thought taking a path on the tops would be a good option, but drifts up to the wall and tops of the gates.
Hope it thaws sharpish.
Dinks on HBK eh, could I have spiced rum and coffee please
By the way, if this race is on, I plan to have some chips and a few at Lane Ends (The Hare and Hounds) which is just up the road afterwards.
Is anyone planning a recce this weekend?
Dru/UK Hursty - I'm up for a recce this weekend-Sat or Sunday if someone will be chief navigator??!!
Rachel
Hursty! You are supposed to volunteer to be the navigator!! Shall we say Saturday at 9.00 am? We have the maps so could bundle it together unless any more "in the know" forumites agree to join in too! Unless you advise first, I'll look at a best place to meet up later, but the 2nd Corrie is on now and I can't miss the latest trauma in the Webster/Dobbs saga!!
Anyone with Wadsworth knowledge pleeeeeease come along!!
Sat @ 9 suits me. I was thinking of running the Stanbury Splash but a recce is more important. I have a map but other than that I am clueless as to the route.
Will get it pencilled in, will know for sure on Friday, but 99% sure I can make 9am Sat.
If someone has a map I will be able to navigate :)
Yeay hay! Well done Alf! Hope you can make it! So 9.00 where? Alf , is there a decent meeting place you can advise of?
Cricket Club, Old Town, Hebden Bridge (GR 998285)
Attachment 2843
The LDWA event -The Hebden also passes the Cricket club on Sat
morning ,the first checkpoint is at the end of the lane . So you'll know
what's going on !
okee dokee! 9.00 at the cricket club, Old Town, Hebden Bridge. See you there folks!
And me!
Just checking that Old Town is off Old Town Mill Lane, near HDC Subaru?
Cheers :)
Hope you all don't mind another bog addict tagging along tomorrow-i can read a map - just. Best not to rely on me though! :)
Cheers
David.
I'll get to the cricket club then scout around for runners from there :)
Cracking recce of the route today, many thanks to Alf for navigating for us, and nice to meet everyone else!
Still some snow up on the tops, but it added to the fun!
Nice route, but a killer sting in its tail!!
Fantastic day for it as well, I'm not building my hopes up for a repeat hehe.
See thee in 2 weeks.
SITREP for Mrs S. :D
All the course east of the A6033 was completely runnable. The snow still on some of the paths west of the A6033 made the running more difficult as we had to run in the tussocks to keep clear of it but the rest of that section was ok.
One small section at the bottom of Shackleton Knoll after the gate descending to the Haworth to Hebden Bridge Walk was completely blocked (still a gate high snowdrift there  ) and so we had to descend through the farmers field to the left.
Thanks Alf. We're going up there on Wednesday so we'll have a good look, doubt it will have gone though.
