This AM, 4 of us attempted to reccie the full Trog.
High Brown knoll, just about runnable but quite deep in places.
From then on down to Dean Head Dam, up to knees and waists in snow. Very difficult even trying to walk. Interesting as the snow had a small layer of ice on the top, so a good scrape after every footstep. Had to abort about 1/2 way between HBK and the dam, and make our way back to the start.
I'm guessing that the roads and tracks the other side of the main road would be runnable (?) but Wadsworth Moor, a real no no.
Looking fwd to it clearing for the race.
Thanks to Elise, Mel and Lucy for your support.
    Clive,

Now I know whose footprints I followed yesterday morning. I did same and decided that going any further than you was dangerous. Came back down same route.

This morning I went up with a few club members. I was convinced the running would be better after the substantial thaw. Big mistake. The thaw caused the previous runnable bit to turn to ice cold slush that was ankle deep. Then the deeper snow was still ice hard on top.

Got to CP 1 and then decided to do the finishing loop. This was even worse, the snow got even deeper and slushier. Ended up cutting across the moor to get back to the outward track, and back to the start.
Took an hour to do 4.5 miles!

    Linda,

If you get the burger van, can I request they serve ice cold "slush puppy" drinks!

    Cheers.
