And ours :-)
Got mine, great cover pic of Ian's JNC
I have to share as in 'ours' whereas everyone else can have it all to themselves! Better read it quick before he gets home!
Mine came too!! As I was on my third in-bed pint of tea!! Thought I'd got a shed full of mail when it hit the floor!!
Mine arrived yesterday :-) which cheered me up no end.
Will it stay unopened until I'm on holiday next week?
Got mine too. Those pics of TWA and Helvellyn/Dodds bring back mixed memories
Undoubtedly the best FRA magazine ever printed :closed:.
Terrible news about the wall in Chris K's section, ham-fisted and they should have owned up. Thanks also for the paragraphs on shoe recycling, i'll take my old ones down to the Leeds up and running i think.
Good contribution from yourself, Ian. The most interesting thing i ever found out about mapping was how the Ordnance Survey originally carried out the mapping of the country, from one measured baseline by a load of Victorian blokes with mostly wooden equipment; it also explains the precise function of trig points. Each angle was taken 5 times, at night to avoid error caused by heat haze, and an average taken to calculate distances using Pythagoras Theorem with Trigs representing the corners of each triangle. The scope for human error must have been colossal, but when they measured the final calculated distance with a tape they were only something like 5 meters out! An astonishing achievement.
Was on the kitchen table when I got home from work earlier this evening
Always good to get home and see that on the floor.
Thanks a lot to all involved.
Highlight of the whole thing for me has got to be the front cover photo. Really great. Hopefully that's a sign of things to come: less gurning old gits, more stunning scenery :)
It really is a cracking cover photo, Mrs P and myself spent an entertaining five minutes arguing about precisely where it was taken from* ....... she thinks she's clever you see, the truth is she's been bloody insufferable since she did the FRA navigation course that is also featured in this edition (she's the stroppy-looking blonde in the middle of the "morning run" picture). I suppose I should be grateful that Ian managed to teach her how to use a compass and read a map, I failed miserably :D
* Kirk Fell I reckon
It is from Kirk Fell looking over Black sail. Great shot and agree with the gurning comment :) Mountain porn all the way :)
Ooh I get my first mention in the results section for many a year....only because they kindly included the first 3 V50s in the relevant race!
Thanks for the comments so far on the Navigation article. I've had a two clubs asked if they can copy it to their website so I've put a copy on my website. Link below.
I was conscious how much space I was using as I didn't want to take up 6 pages etc so I'll expand it over next few weeks.
The second piece will be added on after the Autumn fell runner has come out.

The arrival of this one has prompted me to get back to reading the previous one. Just read about marshalling at last year's Lakeland 100 (very timely and entertaining) and past 3 Peaks Fell Races with Sarah Rowell et al. Come Christmas time I might get started on this one. Don't anyone go giving the game away in the interim.
Hmmm. Usually read this on the train, but am currently driving to work
Maternity leave starts soon - this is top of the pile of relaxing things to do while I wait.
