If so - hope you had some thermal undies.....:D
it's official. local news has said it is the heaviest fall of Snow for over 35 years
14 inches in the garden which would equate to around 16-17 inches. might clear a spot and see what happens over night. TV were broadcasting from where Kingsnail lives.
Waited till half past three then got the skis out again. Was immediately followed by two boys saying "cor mister are them skis can we watch you skiing"
Promptly fell over much to everybody's amusement. Still I'm sticking with it while the snow lasts. Haven't run a step since Eskdale Eureka but I'm permantly whacked with all the x-c skiing.
Keep it coming. Reminds me of '63 when the only downside was the rugby league fixtures being cancelled just after I'd been picked for the team.
Might be a good opportunity to spread the good news about snow tyres, i think i'm the only person in Yorkshire who knows about them:

I seroiusly don't think motoring organisations do enough to publicise their existance and accessibility, they're too busy trying to keep you indoors. Just get some steel wheels that are compatible with your car from a scrappy, fit the tyres and leave them in the shed until you need them. Not trying to be too preachy here but we're going to see more and more of these freak cold snaps because the climate is destabilising.
SChool shut tomorrow!!! Apparently it is more to do with the problems of ice on the roads and a lack of grit in calderdale. Mainroads were okay in Halifax but siddal and exley were lethal and ungritted, just what you need..
Can't say I'm upset by the decision.
Still virtually none here.
No excuse not to be out training then dom! ;)
Snow in Southampton...just enough to cause chaos; about 1cm! :D
Dom is always isolated ;)
Well, we had another good 10 cms over night, that is a good 4 inches for you guys... Could not get the car out, so had to ride the crosser to work, as work needs to get done:(
First exercise since the ruddy chest infection and managed the ride without falling off in a coughing fit, so that is progress :D
Also Schwalbe Landcruisers are the d*gs b*ll*cks on compacted snow :)
Same in Germany, its the law, you have to have a set of Winter tyres on wheels ready to go, and your summer ones go into storage for a few months :)
We don't usually get snow on this island warmed by the sea so we're not used to snow tyres.
It's snowing again here in south Manchester. I measured 6" depth last night in my back garden. It's the most I've ever known in a single fall.
Set of snow chains in the back of my little corsa.
Thats the way forward;)
I was ringing round yesterday to local tyre dealers trying to get some winter tyres but they kept saying they could not get hold of any:(. Two of my tyres were quite worn so I was going to change them for tyres that were good in snow and then later do what Mr Brightside suggested and get a couple of second hand steel wheels for the future. I only want to get off the estate and get back on as main roads are reasonable for travelling on round here provided you take it carefully. Everybody must have the same idea at the moment.
You can definitely get them i've had a price for Vredestein Snowtrac before, can't remember but i think they were circa £60 per tyre for 14", prices obviously go up with size. If they're stored out of the way of sunlight they should last for over 10yrs easy. I used to do the green lanes in winter in my skoda 130 with them and it was so much fun, if your car is RWD beware unless you fit 4 you'll still have little steering, i use them on driven wheels and corner carefully.
New record for the North West, -18 degrees, toasty :)
More snow and colder temps forecast here for tonight!
Just started my new job in the South East.
I made it 130 miles yesterday. Took me 2hr 20 mins door to door (train, not driving!). Another bloke in my office took the same to come 15 miles and another 2 didn't make it in!
Mega head high drifts up on Chinley Churn
Someone measured minus 13 on their car thermometer at 9am here in Hazel Grove. No wonder my legs had a healthy rosy glow to them after the run in.
The mini ice age they warned us was coming when I was at school is finally upon us.
Great pictures by the way, Nikalas. I can't believe how much snow is up there as it's not far from where I live.
My car temperature thing flashes when it falls below 3 degree celcius (to warn you that there *might* be ice  )
However it must just be set to recognise the 3 bit and not the minus bit as it stops flashing once you get to -4 degrees just as it does at +4! :D I don't think it was expecting these temperatures
My daughter has just been telling today's horror story as she was stuck on the Rochdale to Manchester train for over 3 hours  due to a broken down train in front of hers followed by frozen points problems. A journey of usually 20 minutes in the end got her as far as Mills Hill where she baled out and came home.
Aparently tempers were very frayed with one lady threatening to jump off when the driver opened the door to get at a phone on the line. She didn't know if she was claustrophobic, but she was a smoker so that might have contributed as well. She thought in the end they were half an hour away from cannibalism
I wonder how many people have bought 4x4 with this recent weather in mind?
Loving our Mitsubishi Delica at the moment!
Our discovery 'snow mode' thingy is very handy.:D
Don't you just love councils and their policies. My school is open tomorrow as the council have been up and cleared the car park. They haven't gritted the roads outside, but the car park is clear.
PS. My school is at the top of a hill:eek:
Emm, what is the situation up your way? I am venturing up tomorrow via M50/M5/M6 to Manchester...
Its snowing like buggery here now, and im literally a fell shoes throw from the sea, so I think its going to be a rough night for all :( Has anyone ran in the lakes this week, I was considering heading over there this weekend, is it safe on the tops or icy and not very runnable?
