and passed 5 toward the end!;)
I was in around 20th at the time and the field had already split - I followed Stuart Shuttleworth and another on the left route straight up to the crags, and we could see Angela further in front on the same route, and another runner in front of her - presumably Mark Horrocks, and I think Scoffer went that way too, so it split pretty far up the field and I also presume Fellrunner went to the right and got mudged there!
I do like these split times .... hours of entertainment!!
Right, this is interesting for me....these are my positions on each leg (actually within that leg, not at the end of it)
Start > Robinson 170th:eek: Did feel pretty rough to start with.
Robinson > Hindscarth 123rd That's more like it :)
Hindscarth > Dalehead 121st Movin' on up, movin' on up :D
Dalehead > High Spy 187th:mad: A combination of a bad line off Dale Head and a "secret shortcut" on High Spy. Doh!!!
High Spy > Cat Bells 140th Followed Wendy Dodds on a good grassy line
Cat Bells > Finish 152nd. Surprised by that, thought I ran quite well. Went a bit far right at the top and had to cross the rocky path, perhaps that lost me some time?
So if I'd just felt a bit better at the start...and done a recce and chosen better lines over Dalehead and High Spy....
would have been looking at finishing a good 20-30 places higher. Ah well, something to aim for next year.
I didn't recognise anyone apart from Scoffer & I reckoned that he would be a good target to follow up to Robinson. I think this was a mistake on my part as he went to the right of the ridge up to Robinson, I had a brief chat with an Ambleside runner (Nick Fish?) who was in this select group of 4 & we both agreed that it was no surprise that noone else was following us :o :D . I'm pretty sure it was at this point I was Mudged.
Junior results now up on website in reulsts section for anyone interested
Any problems let me know.
PS - that really was Auntie Wynns first post on the website!
Anyone interested in a 2 day mountain nav thingy whotsit in spring!!!!
thinking i need a challenge
Dont know if you noticed, but a new highland spring 2 day MM has a ppeared in the calendar this year
Heres a challenge Wynn!
I have always thought leg 1 of the BG would make a great race:
except when you get to the top of Blencathra, ignore halls fell ridge and do a long descending traverse rejoining the main blencathra W descent path at the road, through the centre, cross the bridge below and back into fitz park using the big track that skirts S of lattrigg. A great run in! I do that several times a year because I love the route.
Any one else think that would make a good race?
I'd reckon left of the tarn for Anniv Waltz, right of the tarn for Borrowdale.
I did do a bit more mucking about with alwaysinjured's route, and tried something along the lines (in bugger-all visibility) of, from Dale Head cairn
400m at 150 degrees
200m at 90 degrees
50 degrees to the tarn
and yes, it was reasonably runnable.
I'd still favour the stright down route for the AW, but when I have trashed quads at Borrowdale I think this might be worth a think.
Id still be interested if any one else has got actual times to compare.
I mad a minute from dalehead to high spy on all around me, but theres the thing: people were overtaking me all the way up. My club mate who I showed the route made up 3 minutes on those around him (18 plays 21)
It would be interesting to see who else can compare - I heard several others tried it, but I am not sure who.
done snowdon race for last seven years , but no other fell runs till this year . including charnwood hills , black rock , wirkswirth and shining cliffs . but still consider myself a beginner , with no navigational experience . really want to do anniverary waltz next year ? what are your thoughts ?
Anniversary Waltz is fantastic. My first time this year.
Get on a recce with a few of us next spring and I'm sure you will enjoy it.
would like that . thou do live a few miles away . thanks
Anniversary Waltz was my first AM race and its not too bad from a navigational point of view. If the clag is down making sure you find the summit of Robinson can be a bit of a problem but otherwise not too many issues
There's pictures of the AW in 220 this month, and triathletes are all big girls so you'll find it easy.....
AW was my first time this year and i got around it easy enough nearly running ever bit, we will all go on a recce sometime so join us and see what you think
sounds like i could do it . live near rugby , so m1 is my link . thats why ive started doing peak district / derbyshire fell runs . ( not to far to drive ) . anniversary waltz would be a bit of a treck , but wanna do it . keep me informed .
It's not that bad a trek..... we've been doing it for 11 years - from Rugby go straight up the M6 - toll road then to Penrith - turn left then not far.... can be done in 2 1/2 hours with lead boots:eek:
and if you ask us nicely we can find camping space for you at a cost!!!! proceeds to the village hall funds
looked at map . im going to do it . anyone know any camping sites near start ?
There's a camp site in Braithwaite which is near to the start.
Anni Waltz 19th April 2008
wynn if i book in to camp in the field do you bring breakfast around:rolleyes:
say about 7.30:D
Another one interested in doing this race next April. Wouldn't mind joining up for a recce next spring with some of you chaps if its possible.
Brilliant race, a favourite of us Durham Fell Runner chaps.
I missed last years race, but next years is now in the Diary.
Hope the free beer's still on
