Re: Makes you proud to be Brit
Below are my reponses. :p
Thankfully I didn't assert that all things are good or evil, otherwise I would now be unable to respond like CL appears to be.

For example, as I learned from watching QI the other night, Hitler (more evil than good I'd say) was very anti fox hunting, which could be considered good by some... although probably not me as I now lean more towards the pro than against lobby. Does that me more evil than Hitler? :D

He was also vegetarian.
You can't be more evil than Hitler, you are either evil or good. There is no such thing as grey.

Maybe you should have added Said Aoiuta to the list and then you could have got somewhere perhaps with the issue of hypocrisy and CL:rolleyes:

What's going on? It's all a bit 'mad moment.'

Re: Makes you proud to be Brit
It is only in relation to a living entity that something can be good or evil. That doesn't mean it is subjective or grey, which is what the loaded questions on the other posts imply. The context is also important.
One example will suffice: I like peanuts. They are a source of nutrition for me and are therefore good. To some though they are evil, because they cause an allergic reaction, that can and will kill them.
This example is a fact that cannot be changed by anyone's feelings(subjectivism). It is therefore objective.
Based on all that I'll now answer the LOADED questions in the way they deserve.

CL, please give your opinion on whether these things are good or evil. You're not allowed to pass, since you say all things can be defined as one or the other.

1) Good for whimps, turns them into Men.
2) Insanely evil, made for whimps.
3)Evil. What do you want to warm up for. Cheetahs don't and they run 7 and 1/2 times faster than whimps.
4)Evil! who wants to roll around on a ball used to suppress the freedom of No 6, except..........whimps.
5) Which aspects?
6)Evil! The whimps need to get bacon butties in them.
7)Evil! Especially when taking a shower.
8)Evil! They really do see animals as commodities. Then blame their lack of integrity on the tax-man.
10)Good! I love Mr Benn. Sounds a bit odd really, but you know what I mean.

Re: Makes you proud to be Brit
There has to be in-betweens though. Take politics. People's opinions will differ depending on their viewpoint.
I thought Maggie was a great PM. But it isn't Black / White - she made mistakes - so in shade terms she would be a pale grey.
I thought Blair was a lousy PM - perhaps even evil:eek: so definitely an anthracite at least.
And then John Major - you only need to check out Spitting Image don't you:D

Perhaps he needs the originator to answer first what would your answers be to your questions?
And why choose that set of questions? Not trying to be contentious are you - shame on you nikalas:rolleyes:

Thanks for having the courage to provide answers. You're right it was a loaded question, designed to find things that would divide the audience and therefore show subjectivity in responses.
Your answers, however, do throw up one interesting observation. You consider the NHS evil, and yet you must have received healthcare from the NHS. By your own logic, you are therefore a hypocrit (and a wimp??), as much as Biara is, anyway.
I'd be interested to hear your take on my observation.

Yes, most of them were tongue in cheek. But seriously the homosexuality one, and CL's lack of response, clearly shows that not everything can be simply divided as good and evil. Thankfully we live in a pluralistic society not CL's black and white utopia. I don't have to give simplistic "good and evil" answers as that's not my world view.

Disagree to a lot of people that question is more black and white than most of the others. Though not all would say it. Me I am happy with grey also.
you still have not answered your questions in any shade - scared?

Re: Makes you proud to be Brit
I actually think that the questions show a problem with our society. The BNP & Homosexuality are 2 typical "taboo" issues on which you are only allowed a voice if you conform.
So in that respect there is no grey - or at least it is not allowed or recognised - all grey is de facto black.
BNP - all walks of "respectable" society say evil/black so if anyone displays a glimmer of support for anything they do, or the slightest understanding for the BNP stance, then they are also evil/black.
Homosexuality - again Society is supposed to accept with open arms without question. It is as equally relevant and right as heterosexuality. Anyone expressing any degree of discomfort is labelled as a bigot - evil/black.
People should be able to debate these subjects openly and honestly whatever their views without being then subjected to the abuse that comes from the stance they take.

What about abortion? Black, White or Grey?

.
Hopefully I'll satisfy Antisocial with this answer too...
BNP is inherently wrong in a modern pluralistic society and to most educated people as, at it's simplest level, it passes judgement on people based on race. However, and this is where the greyness comes in, if you believe in free speech then everyone, no matter how vile their message, has a right to be heard. It's just unfortunate at the moment, that due to the scrabbling for the middle ground by the major parties, some people are actually listening to them.
What is important to remember though, and this is the trouble I have with WP's post, is that the BNP is a choice, homosexuality is not.
In my book homosexuality is neither good nor evil but part of the incredibly diverse and wonderful human condition and therefore obviously something to be accepted. What possible reasons, except outdated and ridiculous literal scriptural interpretations, could there be for "discomfort" with it? It's part of our make-up as a species (and we're not the only ones) and as a society.
Sexuality is a prime example of a continuum trait with heterosexual and homosexual at either end and people falling at some point along the line ("greyness").

Your observation is correct, but the logic isn't. In fact that paragraph sums up the fundamental flaw in your argument.
Biara supports state education. The fact that his wages are plundered to pay for it, doesn't occur to him. I on the other hand do not support the NHS. I recognise that my body isn't state property. Problem is, I'm forcibly taxed to pay for the NHS. Such taxation has left me at the mercy of the NHS, because I cannot afford to pay again for private health care. Therefore I accept NHS treatment. In fact morally, I'm more entitled to treatment than someone who does support the NHS, because I know it's moral premises are wrong.
Calling me a hypocrite is a moral judgement, but morality is a matter of choice. There is no choice when it comes to paying taxes.
One last point. I do not regard NHS workers on the whole as evil.

Yes tut, tut, tut only the uneducated would fail to agree with me!
The educated people that you talk about are nothing but whimp conformists, who've remembered everything and learnt nothing. They are incapable of taking an idea to it's roots, and deciding whether something is good or evil.
Science has many of such adherents. People who'll fix the data for a bit of extra government cash, whilst propagandising certain notions like global warming.(I've noticed they've been a bit quiet recently, what with all the snow).
Yes it is the so called educated people who have brought this country to its knees, and left the innocent at their mercy.

I've answered the homosexuality and BNP questions on this and an earlier thread. Recently I was accused of being a bigot by an 'educated' forumite(Longdogs), and reprimanded by the moderators.
I therefore feel unable to honestly discuss this issue freely. Double that up with the possibility of some caveman crushing my skull with a club.

I've highlighted the key word. Global warming will lead to the British climate getting colder as the melting arctic ice causes the gulf stream to move South but Southern Europe will be desert like.
Anyway, that's another debate. Carry on...
