Bloody hard today...calves trembling still
Glad to have a rest day tomorrow and get back into the pool
Now then.. bicycle riding.. i just couldn't see what the fuss was about. I have been trundling around on an ancient heavy thing without proper pedals. Then, i had the chance to ride a state-of-the-art racy Italian job up over the Wrynose pass. And may i say, i have seen the light. It's brilliant! Can't get enough of it. Was going to get new windows for my house this winter. Not now.. it's 2 wheels for me. Windows.. who needs em.
Good girl Longdogs. A racy Italian is just what you need!
Yep, I agree :)
I also need new windows for my house, needed them when I bought the place back in 2006. I still don't have new windows... I have got some lovely bikes though! :)
Do you live in the Lake District these days Longdogs? I am planning a few days there next week, would be nice to meet up, maybe even for a ride? :)
Ah good choice longdogs.Windows can wait a while longer.
Hann you need another bike. How about a flying gate ?. Trevor Jarvis use to make them. They are down your way i think.
Wasnt going to ride today but got up this morning and felt like giving the pedals a spin....only 12 miles but every little helps
Hard ride last night, legs are hurting!
Easy one tonight, and if it still rains, I think I shall go and spin on the rollers in stead of getting wet :)
Tomorrow I should have my first ever off road session on a MTB... had the thing for years, just never used it :w00t:
A flying gate Daz? I am going to google that now...
West Yorkshire Longdogs, isn't that right next to the Lake District, to the East? :D
Wow, thos flying gates are unusual looking things :) And indeed Daz, not too far away from me in the big scheme of things :)
As far as I am aware Trevor Jarvis still owns the Flying Gate design - he lives in Worcestershire, not far from the Welsh border. They are now actually built by a young engineer who lives a couple of villages away from TJ. If I had plumped for a bespoke steel framed bike it would have been a Flying Gate, but ended up going for the Planet X Ti Sportive. When I visited TJ a couple of years ago he was under pressure to retire, from his other half - he was then 75 and had been living with cancer for several years. He had a crackingy workshop in a small shed alongside his cottage. At the time he appeared to be building exclusively in Reynolds 725 heated treated cro-mo with a 6 month lead time, but I believe that the new guy is offering 631 & 853 also. Google TJ Cycles to find his website.
I've decided that all I need.. is a Ritchey Swiss Cross, and a Rourkey Reynolds 953. Then I can flog / scrap the rest. (Except maybe the FS MTB)
My Dad just emailed me this gem off You Tube...

never mind the flying gate. is this picture hanns front room
can't compete with some of the milage on here but the last two evenings i've done about 8 miles both nights..... However that included a 1700+ft single climb on a MB with knobbly tyres up to the head of the local valley in the Alps followed by a scarey descent round about 20 hairpins. Top speed was 37 MPH which on a MB I think is pretty good.
Would like to give a big alpine pass a crack on a road bike
19m via gummers howe tonite 55m last sunday dent sedburgh area bike in for service tomorrow
My room has more bikes and wheels in it Daz :)
I went mountainbiking for the first time in my life! :w00t:
Had to loosen up the legs after Sw****** last night so just did a very slow and steady 20 mile
21 miles for me today. First time out on the roadie for months (probably first time this year?). It all started to go wrong when I got half way round and found the road back was closed for roadworks. Decided on an alternate route and then got hit in the head by something whilst descending a reasonably steepish bit. Not sure if it was insect or a stone. Either way it still bloody hurts!
What ever it was that hit me... it still hurts. Maybe I should go and get drunk and wait for the hangover to kick in to counteract the pain??
Bit of a quiet bike week, early morning ride round derwent water on saturday to beat the rain lovely riding on the catbells side :)
You didn't fancy pottering up the Honister Pass then ratty to hand out jelly babies?!?! Hope you're not over exerting yourself and obeying the doctors orders!
You do realise this baby is going to be so used to all the cycling that the only way to get him/her to sleep is to get on the puch bike at 2am!:w00t:
Getting up Honister is hard enough even when I don't weight 2 stone extra :w00t: - you might be right about the baby - better make sure my lights are working :)
Were you running Emmi? - i was mainly snoozing and avoiding the rain after my bike ride.
R o l l e r s t o n i g h t
58mins listening to shaggy
And Scooby?
Too tired to do anyting... had a hard week last week, training wise and work wise... rest day Saturday, easy ride Sunday, feeling good, but today I felt sattered. A sort nap before a turbo session turned into a two our deep sleep and no turbo...
Yep I was running ratty - not too worry though my mum and dad were there with jelly babies and first aid :o
Rode sunday for over 2 hours - got a puncture
Rollers yesterday and currently have my eye on a very large black cloud overhead that looks like meaning the full wet weather gear is going to have to come out today AND it's windy...AGAIN  - well it IS August  hmmm ride or run?? Decisions decisions.
20 x hill reps on the bikeSmall recovery inbetween. The same hill as brailsford use to get the british cycling riders to rep on.Think they have got a bit more technical now mind
[QUOTE=Hanneke;427169]Too tired to do anyting. You been training with the irish an post boys hann
I am training wit them again tomorrow Daz!... best head for bed!
2 hours yesterday on the bike in the wind - again. Looks like it was the right decision given it's absolutely hammering down today, rollers later then - got minutes to make up!
I will be bent over ,pushing it in the big ring!! Ten mile hilly time trial for me its going to be fun in this weather:w00t:
