As far as I am aware Trevor Jarvis still owns the Flying Gate design - he lives in Worcestershire, not far from the Welsh border. They are now actually built by a young engineer who lives a couple of villages away from TJ. If I had plumped for a bespoke steel framed bike it would have been a Flying Gate, but ended up going for the Planet X Ti Sportive. When I visited TJ a couple of years ago he was under pressure to retire, from his other half - he was then 75 and had been living with cancer for several years. He had a crackingy workshop in a small shed alongside his cottage. At the time he appeared to be building exclusively in Reynolds 725 heated treated cro-mo with a 6 month lead time, but I believe that the new guy is offering 631 & 853 also. Google TJ Cycles to find his website.
I've decided that all I need.. is a Ritchey Swiss Cross, and a Rourkey Reynolds 953. Then I can flog / scrap the rest. (Except maybe the FS MTB)
My Dad just emailed me this gem off You Tube...

never mind the flying gate. is this picture hanns front room
can't compete with some of the milage on here but the last two evenings i've done about 8 miles both nights..... However that included a 1700+ft single climb on a MB with knobbly tyres up to the head of the local valley in the Alps followed by a scarey descent round about 20 hairpins. Top speed was 37 MPH which on a MB I think is pretty good.
Would like to give a big alpine pass a crack on a road bike
