He runs like the wind, saw him at the finish, didn't look like he'd done owt. Well Done Ben:thumbup:

A great event as always - thanks Alan, & thanks to all your helpers. A bit breezy in places, & a little soggy underfoot, but who minds that in January? Good to see old forum friends - Peter, Karen, Nick - & to put a face to trig. The run felt good, but I was a bit disappointed with my time. 16 mins slower than last year & I'm not sure why. I hope part of it was due to the conditions. Once Alan's got the results up I'll probably do an analysis comparing times last year & this to find out how much of it's just me being slow. I'll post whatever results I come up with.
Wasn't feeling tip top about this one... especially with grumbling sciatica, a 5am start (after only a few hours sleep) and the foul weather on the M62 on the way over... a real sense of doom descended.
Got there though and there was no rain; the company was great; the marshalls were cheerful; refreshments were abundant and the pie and beans at the end were fantastic.
Thanks to all for making it happen.
Just one thing... could you turn that wind down a bit?!
I am 13 stone and was struggling to keep in a straight line and on my feet. The wind in the IoM at Christmas was spectacular, but this wasn't far behind.
And another thing... MUD... it's all part of life's rich tapestry, but I do feel something's missing.
You know how the Inuit (eskimos when I was at school) have about 60 words for snow?
Well do we need to have a similar lexicon for mud? As we all know that not all mud is created equal. Mytholmroyd mud is really quite a unique melee of textures and ingredients....
.........discuss:D;)
Finishing times are now on event website at http://alangreenwood.biz/th2012/Results%202012.pdf
Thanks for all the kind comments.
Many thanks again Allan. Quite a challenging event to organise and a good day out for us punters.
Clive, I thought you had a dodgy knee? Good result there sir:thumbup: didn't get the chance to speak to you though.
You deserve the comments. I returned as much for the pamping as the route itself. And yes it is a mudfest in sections eg on path after hinchcliffe up to greenbank and the famous clumps before stakes lane. Mounsey was on fire yesterday. If he'd left me sooner coulda been sub 2:50?
Thanks, and sorry I missed you - The knee was fine thankfully, but vastus medialis both cramped in fine style just after that climb up and over Blackshawhead into the headwind. Knew I was in trouble, just started to feel twinges near to the top. Sure enough, after stopping at ch3 and stretching, the cramp reappeared on the climb from the main road, and believe it or not, I was in agony and had to walk/stretch for about 15 minutes. Many many people passed me, I could hardly walk. It turns out that they were all long distancers. I was gutted else my time would've been much better, but no, I know that I wouldn't have beaten Paul C. With marshalling it last year, I really forgot that it's such a great event with awesome organisation, and great friendly competitors. I'll be back (if Alan lets me!).
Well it looks like I'm going quite a bit slower than last year, so I'll have to get my act together. Of the top 70 finishers in the long race, I found 33 who did it last year as well. 22 were slower, 10 faster, & 1 had the same time. On average they were just under 3 minutes slower this year. So 13 of my 16 minutes slower than last year is down to me. Oh well, better get out training in the morning.
Did anyone go home with the wrong LaSportiva Crosslites? I did, the one's i have here are smaller than my 9 and a halfs and have a pair of socks in them that also ain't mine. Mine had a pair of Pete Bland socks and a pair of 2XU calf guards in them. PM me if these are yours.
Who's changed my signature:sneaky:
As if i didn't know:wink:
Hey Splatcher,
Thanks for the mathematical analysis which has confirmed what i always expected............you guessed it! i'm average!
Still had a good day

Steve, you need to do the sprint version, that way you'll be home before everyone else and all the associated clutter in the hall ;-)
I do not deserve all the comments. There is a certain lady called Carole in the kitchen at the hall who spends many hours baking and cooking prior to the event and who along with the other ladies and a few chosen men never stops all day of the event. Fancy washing up all the crockery and the cutlery for 450 meals. I steer well clear.
I agree, Alan, you don't deserve ALL the comments. Carole is an unstoppable force of nature and if she was paid even the minimum wage for all the hours she puts into this event I think she'd be a millionaire! And we shouldn't hold you responsible for the Calderdale mud either. But you certainly deserve lots of thanks.
They belong to Jane Woodburn on [email protected] She has yours. You can get treatment for stealing ladies clothes.
yes they are mine! Steve (or should I call you Imelda?) I have sent you a PM!
Thanks Alan - and Carole - for all the hard work, food etc! Great day out!
Hey, I like being a Junior Member ;-)
Alan, Carole and your army of grafters. You did us proud yet again. Thank you so much. I don't know an event like it with so much attention to detail. I've done all six of them and it just gets better. I noticed more red and white tape out on the course than ever before, which was well appreciated, though I was a bit confused why, as we crossed the final field we were directed uphill again and through a gateway instead of ahead down the boggy track. Were you saving us from a muddy section?
splatcher, most people should have been faster last year because we had to take a short cut along the road due to a snowdrift blocking the farm track. Mud really slows pace down. Add gales and you get slowed even further. I was quite pleased to be only 5 minutes slower than last year anyway. It ranks as a better performance.
2009 was the record-breaking year for times thanks to dry conditions and firm, just frozen ground.
It was good to meet you Steampig, and good to chat Steve, Derby Tup, Stef and splatcher (did I forget anyone?). 3 hours flew by after I'd finished before I eventually left.
Splatcher, how could I? Sorry Karen. Will you forgive me?
You're right about the short cut, it was 2 years ago. Nevertheless, the mud and wind will have knocked 5 minutes off this year's times based on the normal route.
Had a great day on the long course. My legs are very sore today (Lytham is a bit flatter than Hebden....). It was the best organised event I've ever been to with by far the most enthusiastic/ friendly bunch of volunteers and marshals. Thanks to all concerned.I'm slowly being drawn to the pastime of running off road!
Nick Yes of course you are forgiven. Frst Hebden for me, although I kept coming to bits and thinking... 'I know this from another race'. It was great to catch up with so many people after a couple of months break - spoke to Capt Krypton and some of team, got a lift with two club members I have not seen for ages, chat with Splatcher and many more. Even managed to fit in a massage.
Great race route and fantastic organisation, especially the waitress delivery!
Always good to chat with you Nick, you were asking me about times.
2008 5h 38m plodding round with friends nattering and stopping and stuffing at every checkpoint.
2009 4h 37m bit more of a serious go at it.
2010 4h 27m best time, suprisingly after coming back from a stress fracture
2011 4h 40m back to scoffing too much, i blame the drip sarnies.
2012 4h 31m set off at the back and gained speed as i went, probably cos i weighed more towards the end.............due to the drip sarnies.
Would be nice to get near 4 hours but the food's to good to miss on this event:thumbup:
Too much of a compulsive eater to be competitive!
Good to chat to you too, Steve. I like stats. You were a bit off in 2009 given the perfect conditions. 2010 was the shortened route. Therefore I'd say 2012 is your PB year. Well done.
These are my stats:
2007 4:37
2008 4:32
2009 4:08
2010 4:30 (must rank as a PW)
2011 4:25
2012 4:30 (you nearly caught me, and I didn't stop at any checkpoint; it was self-sufficiency and eyeballs out all the way)
Ha ha! I like it. My pleasure was a couple of pints of Tetleys.
Tea.
My first go so no idea with times. Disappointed not to get closer to 4 hours but having heard all the above maybe it was Ok ish. Need some more training and get rid of post xmas chub and ski excess. Having hit 50+ just seem to find more and more bits of me are failing to work as expected!
Did not stop for any food and drink- I need to sort this out as spent all Sun drinking so was obviously dehydrated.
Still i did go and do a Night O race that eve, did not do as well as usual but not dreadful either.
My first time doing this too, managed to take a tumble with left foot down a hole near CP5 and pulled left calf:w00t:, had to limp final 4 miles home:mad:, managed 4.16 so quite chuffed given the gale force winds and claggy mud. Absolutely brilliantly organised and supported throughout, an outstanding event. Will be back next year
Those are some pretty good times in those conditions. Well done Karen and protodoc.
I can see this event filling earlier in future years.
I took a few pictures at the start and finish, but made no time to take any during the run this time so I could push for a fast finish (yeah, right).
That bloke on the right has a funny hat, wonder how he found his way round with that on, must be local:wink:

You need to watch him cos he's watching you. He's got X-ray vision to see through that.
How's the calf now, protodoc? Hope it's getting better. You're a bit far away though. Not sure if this'll work .....
