You are welcome Al, magical day to be out on the hills every where it seems. Prepared to get frozen but felt quite warm in the sun still only about 1 C. Don't remember ever seeing a cloud inversion as good as the one today around the western pennines. I think I'll need some new lungs and legs to keep up with Al. Hope it was just the after effects of the cold i just got rid off. Bet it will not be the same tommorrow- off over bowland tommorrow.
Todays jaunt was 7.4 miles and 1300ft of ascent;)
just down loaded these
The first is from Torside clough, the sun was low and just behind me and above the skyline and a low cloud drifted up the clough underneath me.
Attachment 1477
The other was from Glossop low looking over glossop and on to Manchester.
you can see some pylons sticking out through the cloud. the little hump I think is Mottrom moor?
Attachment 1478
Cross country in Sefton Park, Liverpool. Set off as fast as I could and hung in there. Felt tough and not quite 100%
He's finished already.
In the time I've got up and found my underwear on the bedroom floor he's run a 2:17 marathon.
Bloody hell.
well done RR. Hope you're not disappointed.
Well done Roadrunner:cool:
Leg 4 of the Calderdale Way, 9..summat miles, i'm calling it 10 cos we ran back to the cars and it felt like 10:eek:
Cold but cracking day, a much better leg than the last one, more fell than road. Ran it with a couple of Raddy's, a couple of Toddy's and a couple of Crumblies:D
11.5 miles over the only bit of decent off-road running I've got. Thought it all seemed a bit boggy and slippery, so got back and checked my local running clubs site. Turns out they had a cross country race over there this morning....
Bloody runners! :)
Recce of Bleaklow legof Tankys. Took it steady on account of the ice, just about 2 1/2 hr round trip.
Met Tim from Tod (and his friend - sorry, can't remember his name! Stuart?) and then another pair of runners later on. Both pairs doing the same, checking the ground for next week....
Cold out mind you, didn't get much above freezing (at least that's how it felt). Brrrrrrr! :)
7.4 slow miles in three bits
23k including Whernside and Ingleborough..great run in the snow from Ingleborough summit to Park Fell:D
Fiensdale new route 7.5 miles and 2500ft. Another brilliant morning -5 c when set off, intially some very weird winds about very very localised, i think caused by temperature differential of hillside in sun and adjoining parts in shade, seemed to disappear after about 20 minutes.
As we were descending the little bit of steep slope before the ascent of the shooting track, a gamekeeper on a quad biker was muttering something about bowland code of never descending on a 30% slope:confused: Something about preventing erosion - this on a slope I have gone down countless times over the last 10 years and is bilberry covered and shows no signs of erosion!
Also in open access area and on a day leaving moreless no footprints on the concrete ground at that time in the morning from a guy on a quad bike:mad:
Problem there are countless parts of the fiensdale route that has the same steepness as the slope I was on. Descent to sheepfold as a good example.
A tough 6 mile in the mud for me today on Pex Hill.
What a day
Plan was to watch Dvid Staff mem race and then go onto the NW cycloX at Bolton. I made sure my Lancashire immunisation jabs were current then off I set. In my haste to make a petrol station before i had to push the car I hit a curb just outside Colne and punctured tyre - couldn't find locking nut, quik fit had changed a tyre recently so I was cursing them for not giving it back .
Couldn't get a signal so I had to cycle half a mile from car to make a call. Car is company so after several frustrating calls to the AA as per my documentation I eventually found I had to speak to RAC, was told man was 15 miles away and on his way, hour and half later no sign. Sat in the car working out various permutations for getting to race, warming up etc when it dawned on my I hadn't brought my helmet?
A phonecall to my better half to tell my tale of woe elicited the response "and you forgot you keys and I am out with your daughter for the day"
Man came eventually and pointed out my locking nut was there and had been all along duuh me!
So as i could not go home I went top Wycoller Country park and took the bike up the Breonte way and around the Boulesworth Hill circular walk something i had been meaning to look at for a while (carrying bike of course its not a Bridle Path) views were stunning and it rescued a potential disaster of a day.
So to sum up 6 mile cycle, stagger, crawl not sure of height.
Well done Roadrunner...
1:00:50hr after work...Tanners - Plantation - Wimberry (ascent at 85% max HRR..6mins for the ascent)....descent from west side of Wimberry and return home at easy pace via Plantation.....Beautiful skies from atop Wimberry.....pink skies great view out towards Winter Hill Mast.....Fantastic stuff...
Role on Tanky's now :)
well done andi
Fabulous day today, so beautiful out there, weather stunning, crisp frost over the ground - lacerated legs mind - I mean it is still shorts weather isn't it! Great company - well Dave doesn't exactly moan and argue
Full Winter Hill route done - apart from the field where the farmer might shoot you , faffed about a bit bog snorkling after getting myself a wee bit off the beaten track - I mean not lost - just someone moved the trod! ;)
Great day :D
Dark Peaks Wart Revenge race. Route chosen to take you over the roughest peak bog and heather in our area.
Mile after mile of frozen marsh land that your feet just go straight through. I couldn't feel them at one point. followed by steep ascents-descents and more soul destroying shin deep boggy tussocky icey marsh. Brilliant.
Warm up 15 mins
Florence Marathon 7th place, 2hr 17mins 51 secs. (Two seconds off getting a pb!!!) Never mind, struggled a little after 31km. A lonely run.
Didn't bother with the warm down as Brad and I had to get across Florence, catch a train, catch another train and make sure we got to the aiport in Pisa. Sat in Gatwick now surfing the net till my next flight takes off.
Next marathon- London, April 09. Got to go under 2 hours 15mins. Thats my target. Training starts soon.
Feeling a bit stiff and tired after experiencing a flat 10k cross country yesterday. However, enjoyed a great walk with Mrs Tubber in sun and clear weather. Could see white tops in the lakes from the top of Weets.:)
50:38 mins lower Chew, easy easy paced run....nice sunset, great run :)
Heavy chest cold so couldn't do any running/CV work; so went to gym at uni. 7k warm up on bike at ~90rpm then 4 sets of leg presses @200kg with about a minute recovery between each. Broke it up slightly by doing 50 floors on the stepper (10 mins) between sets 2 and 3, plus a couple of sets of calf raises (not sure of the weight - was about 2 weights short of the full stack).
Finished off with a 10 minute walk (5kph) @15% gradient.
I learnt Florence is a lovely city. It rains in Italy. Runnign 24 miles alone can get boring!!!
But I also learnt that I can break 2.15 and will keep trying till I do.
No running tonight.
2 of our club did the beruit marathon on the same day - given the time for Florence and taking their race report into account you may win this if you enter next year Roadrunner
