Good choice, DT. Laura Nyro's way too overlooked.
I found out about here only recently after reading an interview with Bobbie Gillespie who knows a bit about rock 'n' roll

I guess that like Judee Sill, she was overshadowed somewhat by Joni Mitchell.
I can remember seeing LPs in record shop racks back in the early 70s, but never actually hearing her.
Similar to you, I caught up with her about 40 years late!

For Merry Steve. I think he's a fan
A friend played me Veedon Fleece and I bought it next day because I had to own a copy. Everyone I played my copy to has been stunned. The vocals are unbelievable!
Linden Arden stole the highlights
With one hand tied behind his back
Loved the morning sun, and whiskey
Ran like water in his veins
Loved to go to church on Sunday
Even though he was a drinking man
When the boys came to San Francisco
They were looking for his life
But he found out where they were drinking
Met them face to face outside
Cleaved their heads off with a hatchet
Lord, he was a drinkin' man
And when someone tried to get above him
He just took the law into his own hands
Linden Arden stole the highlights
And they put his fingers through the glass
He had heard all those stories
Many many times before
And he did not know nor care to ask
And he loved the little children
Like they were his very own
You say, "Someday it may get lonely"
Now he's livin', livin' with a gun
Which prompts the thought...
Randy Newman (who is indisputably the greatest living American song writer) recently said that he thought his current/recent work was as good as anything he has ever written. Possibly, but if true it is because he is not a writer trying to capture the zeitgeist whereas, and I say it now, Adele will be forgotten in a decade just as Elton John, George Michael, Jagger-Richards, McCartney,...all of them... are just turning out dross.
Is this a good time to say I like the new Stones single, even, or more to the point, because it's pastichey (if such a word exists)?
