Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
A group of us from Rochdale did leg 2 this morning, good running it was too. Snowed on the top while we were out. If anyone finds a manky black MIZUNO hat on Leg 2 its mine, fell out my pocket :(. Would love to get it back - had it 10 years or so.

A very runnable route and fast in places. Nice downhill finish!!!!
Looking forward to the relay next Sunday now.
Seemed to be another group setting off just as I retruned to the top car park. Bet there have been lots of klast minute recce's this weekend.
Is the kit checked as we start each leg similar to the CWR?
Kit checks are made at the start of each leg. No kit no run.
Waterproof/windproof full body cover ie cag and overtrousers
Map of the route
Whistle and compass
Hat and gloves.

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
This road closure is making things a bit tricky for leg 1 changeover.

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
Why? - you just divert past Turf Moor and it would add max 5 minutes to your trip if coming from the M65 direction.

Well the thing is, I've gotta shoot straight off to work after leg 1, so dropping my car off there, then going all the way back round to the start, is a bit of a ball ache ;)

The leg 1 runners got checked in the hall last year, but i never got or saw anyone having their kit checked once the relay was under-way (i was on leg 2)

I got a kit check at leg 2 start last year; easy really 'cos i was wearing most of it!
Don't skimp your kit; even if you're not bothered from a safety point of view it'll mean your entire team will be DQ'd if you fail to bring it and get spot-checked.
Would'nt fancy explaining that one to my team-mates:(

Very true.
Its not like its a maddive burden to carry what is required round with you either.
And as you say, i was wearing every item of clothing I had waiting for the leg 1 runners to come flying in.

Martin, the club has two other teams running. If you leave your car at the finish your partner can get a lift back with one of them. Being the first leg, there's not going to be too much of a wait.
You can shoot straight off then.
Thanks for bailing us out on this by the way.

It's a great help if you present yourself to the marshals for a kit check well before your team arrives, if only to prove you've taken responsibility for your own safety. I aim to do 100% checks at my changeover point - be warned .

Righto, sounds like no trouble then! Just need a lift from end of leg 1 to the start :)
No worries anyways, looking forward to giving Leg 1 a beasting

We could help you out there but will take us around 1:15-20ish to reach checkpoint. :o
If youre still around when the Trawden(black/white verticals with a red horizontal) pair hand over, then give us a shout and you can get back with us. :D

I'm sure he only wants to greet me and shake me warmly by the throat.
My exact location is kept a secret, so as to retain an element of surprise.
Seriously, as it states on the event website and Lefty emphasises, the event attracts a lot of teams new to the fells. This makes kit checks even more important, particularly now that the forecasts have been revised down to -10C rising to -5C. There are 190 sets of kit to check at each changeover, so it really does help if pairs play their part and seek out the marshals early on. Personally, all I'm looking for is runners to demonstrate they've taken responsibility for their own safety and are suitably equipped for the conditions. Should be a quick 'rubber stamping' exercise, but in the past I've found a runner on the start line with no kit whatsoever, and already shaking uncontrollably with the cold. A rescue waiting to happen, and unfair on everyone else in the relay. (The individual was sent away to borrow kit.)
Looking forward to meeting 20% of you on Sunday at an undisclosed location. ;)
Hope you all enjoy the day.

Nice try TT, but actually I'm at the end of Leg 3.
(Bear in mind advice about lack of shelter at this location - it gets mighty cold while waiting)

Its really down to the runners to present themselves to the kit checker who will be there at the start of each leg. You could if you so desired avoid the kit checker although this wouldnt be in the spirit of the sport. 2 years ago we disqualified one of our own teams when one of the runners who avoided the kit checker set off without the kit and was handed a bum bag halfway round his leg. This was spotted by a following team and quite rightly reported.......his 9 team mates who ran their tripe out were not impressed.......hope everone understands and helps us out on the day......thanks

Tom, I hope that your mum has neatly pressed your cag, trousers, hat & gloves. She won't want you showing her up in front of everybody. :D

We have an ironing service at the start of each leg in case your mum is not available (not included in the entry fee)

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
Hopefully parking should be better this year at Callis Bridge (2nd changeover) where it has been a bit of a problem in the past. The parking area off Jumble Hole Road by the old CVS plumbers merchants has now been taken over by a new owner who is more receptive to the event. The area has been resurfaced and as the premises will be closed on Sunday we can get more cars on there. It will be locked until our marshals get there at around 8.00am. We have had to make a considerable payment for use of this area but it will be worth it if it makes things easier for everyone on the day.
The Menzolit car park down the road will also still be available

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
Down to do leg 3hree......confident that me and my mate can live up to our underdog status and once again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory for our team.

The A 646 Burnley to Todmorden Road will be closed at its junction with the A671 for work on the railway bridge at GR SD859302 on the Sunday of the event. For those travelling from the Rossendale or Burnley area the road to Walk Mill/Cliviger/Holme Chapel is closed.
To gain access to the first changeover at the Long Causway you will have to continue into Burnley turning right at the traffic lights and going past Turf Moor.(Burnley Football ground ) heading towards Worsthorne. Access to the Long Causway road can then be regained at Mereclough.
This will add possibly 5-10 minutes to your journey. Anyone travelling from the Todmorden area will not be affected.
Anyone know if this is still a problem?

This is one weekend in a scheduled series of closures by Network Rail to work on the bridge, so you will almost certainly still need to use the alternative route.
-
Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
Did a check with the Highways agency and yes as our good friend Felljunior tells us, that section of road will be closed on Sunday. Diversion signs will be in place they tell me, could possibly add 5-10 miutes to you journey.

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
It looks pretty cold out there and foggy close to the Leg 5 section. I hope its gone by the time the runners arrive. Wrap up well today folks.

I'm off to watch the Mrs Hopey run leg 5, I'd better wrap up warm!
