Never could pronounce my 'r's, jodg, as you well know.

Very obvious route, no problems at all on that score Iain.
Shoes are a funny one with this race, I normally opt for something like Wave Harriers or NB840s. Three river crossings, couple of short tarmac stretches, the rest is fields, tracks and fast descents to the rivers.
Great atmosphere, just as many out for a hard thrash as there are for a steady plod. A shorty but one of the best :D . Just make sure you're near the front to get through the stile ahead of the queue!
Oh, and yes, just roll up 18:00 onwards and register. You get a number for life, same every time you race it.
I've managed to get lost before now! I've heard rumour that Mr. Trunce has managed to as well :O
A descent pace (starting on the grass to overtake those with elevated ideas of their ability!) for the first km is recommended to get to the stile before the queue develops.
Trail shoes are fine, but Sandals appear to work well!
I should be there on Monday, hoping on a significant improval on last time - no Edale Skyline excuse this time, just the hardest week of training yet this year! :O
Iain, only place you will tend to stray is just prior to the descent through the wood to the 2nd river crossing. If unsure just stick to some of the fast lads as once over the river you ascend to the road and then run back to 1st river crossing for your return.
Just a reminder about parking at the next 2 Trunce races. The cinder car park will still be used but when full we will, weather permitting, be using the gateway next to the Wagon Car Park to access parking and registration on the playing field.
Wherever possible please share transport for several obvious reasons.
If the field is wet car parking will be at the childrens play area about 200 metres Oxspring side of the pub, only room for a dozen or so cars, at the bottom of Bower Hill, which is the road directly opposite the pub, there is a section of old road on the South side about 150 metres from the junction. If these areas are full PLEASE park sensibly and safely where you can but do not block any driveways.
Thanks. Andy
Good to see Mr and Mrs Ridgeway at the start :) another big field and once again near perfect conditions, cool clear and very dry, PB this week despite the big weekend in Scotland. 27.32, not sure if i've anything faster in me for this season. only time will tell.
results are up already...
Welldone kingsnail :)
gutted just run my personal best and my result was not recorded i did eneter my number was 2863 and the time i did it in theres a race number 286 so i think they missed a 3 off the end there always next time to go for it
Just tell Kingsnail and he'll change it PDQ. there was an issue with some of the numbers tonight but he can correct them. just tell him your time and number
whats his email
cheers james
Either PM him "Kingsnail"
or contact him via the website http://undeadmonkey.org.uk/trunce/in...ntact&Itemid=3
just had a email back cheers ian
despite having a touch of the iffy-guts I managed to shave about 3secs off my PB - although I can't confirm this as my antivirus is flagging up the website and not letting me access it!
Good race, far too fast and furious..always worrying when you see runners in racing flats at a fell race..went off too fast struggled and only found one hill to justify a walk..
Not sure I could do 9 of them a year but will no doubt get a few more done. Good run Ian, I felt tired and had done nothing like that sort of mileage.
26:43 and 15th for me. Sarah got another win, so she's happy.
Mine was missed off, but there was a runner with a similar number, so he got added twice.
A digit of mine was possibly wrote down as a '6', & not a '9'
Have already e-mailed Andy (not checked for a reply though)
An excellent 7 from our Club attended, including me
I don't think it gets easier but a little knowledge about where to push does make the difference. I was 45 seconds behind you, Never thought I'd get that close to you in a race. Well done Sarah she wasn't that far behind.
Have a good holidday
Best to send email to Mark as per above. Andy doesn't check his emails every night what with running a pub etc
Thankyou Ian, have just done so.
17th place (Richard Deverill '2467') is also credited with 67th, I guess that's my place, as my watch stated 31:05 when I stopped it (my number is '2497')
I was wrong, 8 others came down to run.
Some enjoyed it, others....endured it
I am right in thinking that jumping the fence next to the kissing-gate is poor form, aren't I? Just want to make sure I didn't give an in-correct barracking to someone who did it just behind me, Overheard someone in the bog after (getting changed in the bog, obviously not a 'real' fell runner!) talking about hurdling the fence next time, so told them it's frowned upon.
Yes you are right in thinking this. Jumping walls, fences, gates whatever in any fell race is a no-go area - as frustrating as queuing might be.
And ruffling the feathers of the local landowners if their property is damaged could mean the end of the race in the worst case.
So scream and shout at anyone who even thinks about it.
I know the guy from the bog and to be fair to him I do consider him a "real" fell runner so I've no idea why he felt the nee to get changed in the toilets, will have to have a word with him!
I reckon this is one of those unwritten rules which cold maybe do with a bit of clarifying. I can see why we need to be very careful not to upset landowners so only official stiles etc should be used as hundreds of runners clattering their way over a gate probably isn't going to be very good for it. However you do see lots of people doing it which won't help to discourage the behaviour. If a fence was "hurdled" without touching it, woud that still be considered bad form given that there would be no damage to the fence? If it is just viewed as "poor form" at the minute does the unwritten rule maybe need to be clarified and made more official?
I think it is even more of an issue in events like the mountain trial, god knows how many people I saw fence hopping last year instead of using the designated crossing points. That I am sure not only annoys landowners but also fellow runners going to the extra effort to get to the official crossing points.
Another similar issue is people who choose to ignore out of bounds areas, that really gets my back up! I really should go and count to 10...

If it doesn't Hurt you're not trying!!
Look like I've missed Piglets Quote off!
Those queueing at the gate have done so to follow the request of the landowner and the race organisor, jumping the fence whether you touch it or not is not just Bad form it's cheating. Shout at them at least but better still take their number and have them disqualified. If they don't like it theyshould run faster or not come at all.
Fair point Ian. The thing is I think a lot of people don't realise it is cheating, or even if they do, they know it won't be enforced. I've seen plenty pics of some of the top fell runners (some from Holme Moss spring to mind) hurdling fences / stiles but have never heard of anybody being disqualified. If it's a rule surely it needs to be enforced.
I've got no problem with the rule, just don't think it's very clear. It's similar to the kit requirements issue some people quite rightly carry the required kit but unless there's a very strict kit check you will always get people who don't.
It's a tough one, I love the relaxed informal nature of the sport and wouldn't want to see that change but it does allow for some to bend the rules.
Forgot to say I think I confused you yesterday Ian, I was out on course watching and coming back up onto the road after the second river crossing I gave you a shout and you gave me a look as if to say who the hell re you"?! We have met before but I have since aquired a beard and shaved my head so you probably didn't recognise me!
If it is an unwritten rule that all fell runners must embrace nudity and dance around the field post race in birthday suits, I'll happily join in! I have gotten changed in many fields before if it makes you feel better.
I'll take note of the fence jumping rule in future. I don't see how it can be something you can be disqualified for if its not an official rule. It needs to be made clear and I think should be stated in the rules.

Not all races are the same, some have designated fence / wall crossing points where there is no stile. If the RO says so or if it is otherwise stated e.g. on the entry form then it is a rule for that race. Often though its just common (or not so common) courtesy to not queue jump. If you really are so competitive or just plain faster then get to the stile / gate first or just relax and enjoy a bit of banter whilst waiting.
As a body of people who thrive on the outdoors should we not abide by the rules of the outdoors. The country code states "Use gates and styles to cross fences, hedges and walls." As the organiser of the Trunce I have had several "conversations" with the guy that rents this land from Yorkshire Water and he is VERY unreasonable. I have offered to replace the rickety "gate" at the side of the kissing gate and supply a chain with 2 locks, one for him and one for us, but he declined the offer suggesting he would have to talk to the wife????? about it. His reaction to this conversation was to put barbed wire on the top spar of the gate in question, which, to me, suggests he does not want anyone to climb / jump / leap it. I am as much against the written rule book as anyone else but common sense should prevail in such situations. It is not ideal to queue for a gate or stile but I am afraid that is what you will have to do, OR, run a bit faster on the aproach and get there before the hoards. :)
Just spoken to Mark re the warnings on the web and I do believe he has cured it. Speak to Mark (Kingsnail) if you want an explanation, don't ask me.
You could have been my next door neighbour ;) ! when I'm racing unless it's some one I know really well nothing registers apart from the guy in front, lack of oxygen to the brain I reckon. although I have to say I can remember a face, just not whose face it is:o
Time to join us again in the summer series:thumbup:
From the Trunce website route Description
There you are no need for any one to be confused now ;)Quote:
From the start head up the track. Pass through the tunnel under the Trans-Pennine Trail and continue up the track, following it round to the left as it levels out. Continue along the track past the farm until it reaches a stone stile. Cross the stile onto the grassy footpath which then descends steeply through a kissing gate and eventually reaches the river crossing. Whatever you do, don't jump the fence at the kissing gate as you will probably get pelted with rocks. Cross the river either using the stepping stones, which can be slippy, or just plough through the water making sure to soak anyone trying to keep dry on the stepping stones.
Andy, Not sure if it was done at the end of the last race but at the narrow gap in the stone wall on the second descent the wall has collapsed. It might be nothing to do with the race but just so you know.
Hello,
Just found this site after my first time at the Trunce yesterday. I had no idea what I was letting myself be talked into, but it was brilliant :) Not quite sure about embracing nudity though...
That's all really, I don't have anything interesting to say... but I'll be back!
