Not sure I could do 9 of them a year but will no doubt get a few more done. Good run Ian, I felt tired and had done nothing like that sort of mileage.

26:43 and 15th for me. Sarah got another win, so she's happy.
I don't think it gets easier but a little knowledge about where to push does make the difference. I was 45 seconds behind you, Never thought I'd get that close to you in a race. Well done Sarah she wasn't that far behind.
    Have a good holidday

Have already e-mailed Andy (not checked for a reply though)

Best to send email to Mark as per above. Andy doesn't check his emails every night what with running a pub etc

Thankyou Ian, have just done so.

17th place (Richard Deverill '2467') is also credited with 67th, I guess that's my place, as my watch stated 31:05 when I stopped it (my number is '2497')

I was wrong, 8 others came down to run.
    Some enjoyed it, others....endured it

I am right in thinking that jumping the fence next to the kissing-gate is poor form, aren't I? Just want to make sure I didn't give an in-correct barracking to someone who did it just behind me, Overheard someone in the bog after (getting changed in the bog, obviously not a 'real' fell runner!) talking about hurdling the fence next time, so told them it's frowned upon.

Yes you are right in thinking this. Jumping walls, fences, gates whatever in any fell race is a no-go area - as frustrating as queuing might be.
And ruffling the feathers of the local landowners if their property is damaged could mean the end of the race in the worst case.
So scream and shout at anyone who even thinks about it.

I know the guy from the bog and to be fair to him I do consider him a "real" fell runner so I've no idea why he felt the nee to get changed in the toilets, will have to have a word with him!

I reckon this is one of those unwritten rules which cold maybe do with a bit of clarifying. I can see why we need to be very careful not to upset landowners so only official stiles etc should be used as hundreds of runners clattering their way over a gate probably isn't going to be very good for it. However you do see lots of people doing it which won't help to discourage the behaviour. If a fence was "hurdled" without touching it, woud that still be considered bad form given that there would be no damage to the fence? If it is just viewed as "poor form" at the minute does the unwritten rule maybe need to be clarified and made more official?

I think it is even more of an issue in events like the mountain trial, god knows how many people I saw fence hopping last year instead of using the designated crossing points. That I am sure not only annoys landowners but also fellow runners going to the extra effort to get to the official crossing points.

Another similar issue is people who choose to ignore out of bounds areas, that really gets my back up! I really should go and count to 10...

Look like I've missed Piglets Quote off!

Those queueing at the gate have done so to follow the request of the landowner and the race organisor, jumping the fence whether you touch it or not is not just Bad form it's cheating. Shout at them at least but better still take their number and have them disqualified. If they don't like it theyshould run faster or not come at all.

Fair point Ian. The thing is I think a lot of people don't realise it is cheating, or even if they do, they know it won't be enforced. I've seen plenty pics of some of the top fell runners (some from Holme Moss spring to mind) hurdling fences / stiles but have never heard of anybody being disqualified. If it's a rule surely it needs to be enforced.

I've got no problem with the rule, just don't think it's very clear. It's similar to the kit requirements issue some people quite rightly carry the required kit but unless there's a very strict kit check you will always get people who don't.

It's a tough one, I love the relaxed informal nature of the sport and wouldn't want to see that change but it does allow for some to bend the rules.

Forgot to say I think I confused you yesterday Ian, I was out on course watching and coming back up onto the road after the second river crossing I gave you a shout and you gave me a look as if to say who the hell re you"?! We have met before but I have since aquired a beard and shaved my head so you probably didn't recognise me!
