I follow this routine religiously before every race:
1) Consider not going
2) Arrive & become obsessed with tying my shoelaces
3) Keep having little wees, often feeling the urge right up to the start even though the only liquid left is "bladder sweat"
It serves me well:cool:
I try and avoid the short ones as 3.25 mile sprints, up hill, are sheer hell in a handbasket for pretty much the whole distance. You just don't want to make a prat of yourself really, especially on a first race. Just turn up, warm up a bit and run it.
For longer races my preparation all evolves around taking the right gear, drinks and snacks with me, vaselining in all the right places and making sure my bum bag or back pack fits snugley. I tend to have a sort of pre run energy drink and maybe a banana or some dried apricots and I'm good to go.
just thought i'd add that i will be gracing you with my presence on saturday, feel free to shout abuse at me,i'm the small hungover looking pony :D
4th weekend of consecutive racing this, midgley moor and mourne peaks will take it up to six weeks
This may sound pathetic but.........will i got a number for just my front, or will i get one for on the back aswel......its just so i know how many pins to bring. ha.
just the front. don't worry too much about the details, most of us grim looking fellrunners are a friendly bunch who will be happy to help
