    Re: Rivington Pike

Does anyone have any tips on how they prepare for the race in the hours and minutes before the race. Such as warm up routine, food etc
    Thanks

Last year I ran the course with Alan Peers of Spectrum Striders at 2pm. We took 38 minutes.
Then we ran the race at 3pm in 25 minutes. Alan was first over 65. Hope this helps.

I follow this routine religiously before every race:

    1) Consider not going

    2) Arrive & become obsessed with tying my shoelaces

    3) Keep having little wees, often feeling the urge right up to the start even though the only liquid left is "bladder sweat"

    It serves me well

I try and avoid the short ones as 3.25 mile sprints, up hill, are sheer hell in a handbasket for pretty much the whole distance. You just don't want to make a prat of yourself really, especially on a first race. Just turn up, warm up a bit and run it.

For longer races my preparation all evolves around taking the right gear, drinks and snacks with me, vaselining in all the right places and making sure my bum bag or back pack fits snugley. I tend to have a sort of pre run energy drink and maybe a banana or some dried apricots and I'm good to go.
