No Crowden today :(, so its a few miles on the old Raleigh clunker for me.
Just spent most of the day so far doing bike maintenance....o/h thought it highly amusing that I was scrubbing the wheels with an old toothbrush, then went mad another t-towel got wrecked...oopsie! :o
Anyway having a rest now as am about to launch the thing as can't get the rear gear lever to play properly after adjusting the cables to sit under the bar tape I've just redone
All I need now though is those deep rim wheels... oh and to get the bib tights on and go for a ride :D hopefully out early evening.
Al...you got that bike yet?
2 hours cycling round the fells with Mrs Stagger really enjoying the outing after yesterdays little run;)

Happy Birthday to my hero
saw a guy last sunday on a bike with Pink cables so on the hunt for some of those!!:D
Just back from a speedy 50 miles....may as well have been on a fixie, no free speed what so ever :( the price of living in the flat lands.
Came to a grinding halt up the drive and almost fell off the legs are that knackered, not a bad ride 2 and a half hours all in.
Only 20 mile tester on the Italian beast. New wheels, new saddle, fab, in heaven:):):)
Now how about that 100 mile challenge:eek:
good good Toffs, I'll pack the cushion away again!
Still not really recovered from last weeks 110 although at least it's not been as God damn windy  all quiet on the roads of Lancashire this evening.....everybody seemed to be in the beer gardens of the many pubs I whizzed passed
would love to join you guys on your welsh tour but I'm rapidly running out of weekends :o
110 miles Emms, top stuff, now does that qualify for the Daz challenge or was it a flatland stomp??
And.......if you can't do the whole thing just come for a day.....or two...;)
You need a new rear mech as well Toff!

..and only £800
Now that is getting really silly!
And, there will be a carbon test for the T de G, too much carbon and the owner will be condemned to domestique work for the duration:D:D
here we go.....it looked like this
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_e0HmkmB4qp...profile800.jpg
54mph!!!:eek::eek:
So yes, a Daz Challenge contender by the sounds of things. So the question is.....how long for the 100 and did you get to 6hrs 41mins total??
er, sorry, that was 2 questions.
Enticements, yes, we can do that.........there is the prospect of commemorative Steam Bunny cycle shirts and honorary Steam Bunnyhood...:cool:
No it took a chuffing eternity....think I was wailing 'give me a triple' at one point  ran out of gears!
was a sportif thing so lots of stops for tea and cake!!!
to be fair the weather was shocking, horrendous gales and then at 80 miles it started to chuck it down, the bike was almost launched into the nearest hedge by 95 miles!!! No grous to work with so the going was tough...they say it's good trainng though  for what exactly I'm not so sure!
Blimey, I'm dead impressed in that case. Stopping for tea and cake is vital I reckon. Mind you isn't needing a triple a sin of weakness:D:
Got our local sportif in a couple of weeks, Dragon Ride, 120 miles and loads of climbing. Rubbish feed stations last year, no cake!!:eek:HTML Code:ducks
Ah, I had forgotten about the Daz challenge... doing a 50 mile race next week, maybe I should just keep riding until I hit 100, or alternatively, ride for 6.40??? hmmm, that will be a fair amount more miles...
I will also pass the TdG carbon test :D
One bike is titanium with only a carbon fork, the other is aluminium with only a titanium fork... Mind you, the hubs on my Mavic Ksyrium SK wheels on one bike are carbon and the deep section wheels on the other are also carbon
I am not the greatest fan of carbon, I LOVE my titanium bike :D
yes...sign of weakness  although if someone had asked for a go on mine in return for the use of his granny ring at one point, I'd have snapped his arm off!! I'm sure I saw someone there on a softride too
was going to do the dragon ride but they all sell out so quickly and so many things clash :( and well frankly if there's no cake then I ain't doing it! :D
Legs a bit achey today after yesterdays 50 loosen them off with a run later!
Not up with you Em, but managed 31 mile in 123 mins although it had a couple of lumps in the middle. (2600')
PS Its only a cheap ebay bike with a fat lad on it:o
Was out on the bike at 8am on a glorious morning while the girlfriend did her first run of 30mins. Will be back out on the bike again this evening while she puts in another 35-40mins running :)
Both Saturday and Sunday (yesterday) finished my 45km Cheshire ride before 7:00am. Today lazy and overslept, finishied at 8am.
The way Lance dragged the pre race favourite up to the summit in todays Giro in what were very testing conditions (very hot) has got to make the TDF favourites sit up and take note.Levi said Lance saved him "minutes" by dragging him up.
To think he had a very disrupted (to say the least) lead up to the race only makes his riding these last couple of weeks even more impressive.
Can he grab no.8 in Paris ? ...looking more realistic by the day imo.
Was a good day in the Giro. I was amused when the comentry said the road was very dusty and they had the motorbike out with the red flag in front of the peleton on the last decent. It is very dusty because there is about 4 km with no tarmac... I road down it about 3 weeks ago in the wet!! The bit lower down where there was tarmac was the worst 13% down for about 4km and very twisty with it. I was not suprised with Popovich pulling out a minute or two over the peleton there, just too bad he died a death going up the last hill. He was probobly half an hour quicker up it than me mind you....
I hope the snow has gone from the top of Blockhause for the next stage. with a rest day and a short stage the 20km climb could be very exiting if Sastra can get a gap.

A bit of bike servicing tonight after my run
bargain of the week has to be my new bike stand from DECATHLON
its very sturdy and seems the same as those priced at over a hundred quid.
£50 bargain
Im trying to remember what my best time is for a hundred miles.
So many different factors and being that i never time myself in races ive never really checked.
Its a total different experience doing 100miles on your own in shit weather to sitting in a bunch ,so times shouldnt really be taken too seriously.
Ive had rides where ive easily done 18/19mph and some where ive suffered at 14mph.
Its funny though but i once did 157miles as a youngster on mighty white bread alone. I will never forget it . I rolled the slices with a rolling pin to get more in my jersey but ended up a nightmare as i hit bad weather and it turned to gloop but i just kept reaching behind and eating a bit more.
Just like then though i still say forget your fancy pants sportsdrinks you still cannot beat coca cola as a pick me up.
No carbon frame for me as i looooooooove me steel.
Incidentally i called into a well known bike shop in Derby today and watched in shock as a salesman tried to sell a lad my height a size 58 frame:eek:. The lad was about to shell out £2grand until i pointed out to him that he wouldnt even be a 56
The salesman had no IDEA:(.
The lad had got the seat lower than the bars and was stretching at that.
The salesmans solution was to loosen the stem and roll the bars forward to apparantley bring the bars nearer to the rider
FFS i was amazed and told him so.
There should be qualifications when sizing people for bikes
NOT GOOD , NOT GOOD
I did hear the saleaman mention that the model was the same as that what Lance had won the tour on.
Jeeeeeesus.
Oh dear, reminds me when i went into one of those golf discount shops, when i took golf semi seriously for a year, and i overheard a guy telling some poor beginner " you look like one of those guys that want to hit the ball long and straight":eek: No Sh1t ....Quote:

Daz, that is as bad as a lad in a shop in London wanting to sell me a woman's bike!
It was tiny, about half the size I needed... thankfully, I knew what I was doing as opposed to him and to the shops credit a better sales person butted in and steered me right away from the titchy white and pink bikes with huge padded saddles and triples...
Decided NOT to buy the Giant TCR2 they had on sale that I was tempted into the shop by and just as well, as I now have a lovely titanium racing bike :):)
Ah, I cam in here to say that I had a f*cking hard ride tonight, trying to keep up with the fast chaingang... 80 kms of sheer agony... well, I rode to and from the ride at easier pace... but still...
