Last year was thick fog, this year looks like high winds and heavy rain are likely...recce definitely a good idea!Quote:

The start loop (for the full only) is not worth recceing imho. As others have said it's all a bit frantic and packed together so you can't get lost anyway. If anyone wants to walk across to the start for the full, just to see where it is then we could do that but it's only about 100 yards from the cricket club anyway.
I'm going to kick off at the half trog start, that's where the start loop for the full comes out, so it'll do for both distances. We can then follow the half trog route as both distances have a common route to and from Cock Hill (cp3,11) and a common finish.
Don't worry if this doesn't make sense, it will on sunday. The recce will be useful for either distance and i'll make sure people know where the differences are.

We are hoping to have the final entries list on Calder Valley's website over the weekend. Just need to wait for the post tomorrow as that is the extended closing date. Hope the weather is an improvement on the gale force winds and rain forecast this weekend.

Everyone that has entered the race has got a place. The list that has been published was done last Saturday after the closing date but the few entries that have been received up until yesterday are in. Looking forward to it now as we've certainly got a much improved forecast and it hasn't rained as much this week.
Can anyone recommend whether it'll be better to wear Inov-8 Mudclaws (long stud) or Montrail Highlanders (shorter stud) for this tomorrow?

Met & was passed was Antisocial, miserable git :w00t:, & Trig, who tried to pull us along for a sub 4 hour, unfortuntely it wasn't to be, stuggled on the moor to Winney Stones & never got it back. Hey Ho, finished in 4hr 39 secs, so quite happy for my 1st one. Had to shoot at the end, we were car sharing, & had to get back, but thanks for a well organised race, with possibly the best bunch of marshalls I've seen out. I tried to thank you as I was staggering past, but if I didn't - "THANK YOU"!! :D.
Well done to everone who finished, I've had my brew, now it's beer o'clock!

Absolutely love this race, but I cannot think why!
Its super tough, even in fantastic conditions, which we were graced with. The bogs are relentless, and punishing, but at the finish its all worth it!
Had a steady run round today, came in 9 mins slower than last year, but that was to be expected. Had a slight issue with painful cramp, but it seems to disappear if you just plod on.
Fanastic setup and well marshalled, will be back next year :)
Good to see a few faces from here and elsewhere, ZHR, AS, LD, DT, Stolly and others.
Thanks to all involved for making it a great day. This was my first long race and I loved it. The happy encouragement from the Marshalls and others running around me really helped ease the pain!

Fantastic race (I think) but that last ferlipping climb and then the lap round the cricket pitch - what complete and utter sadist thought that one up? Maybe they should hand each runner a hawthorne branch to whip themselves with while they're at it!
It was my first fell race since about 1908 too so I was pretty pleased with my finishing time of 4:10. It would have been 5 minutes quicker had I not stupidly followed a complete moron :) who didn't know where he was going and was not paying attention. It may be the boggiest swampiest fell race I have ever ever run.
Its a real sting in the tail that last bit! Surprising how much energy can be summoned for it though I always find, nethertheless, I prefer a nice downhill finish!Quote:
