1st time Anni Waltzer and loved it. Tremendous route blessed by good, clear weather. Felt relaxed most of the way around, went a bit flat going over Maiden moor and sort of shuffled back from there. Must get up to the lakes more often, will have to check my diary/rota for Kentmere, Fairfield and Borrowdale. A big ta to everyone involved in making the race possible from the cake makers to the wind swept marshalls. Loads of forumites milling about and met quite a few people I haven't seen for some time. Cheers for the lift Stolly - did you polish off that prize cake last night, I noticed you secreted it away for the journey back :)
Cake duly polished off, mainly by my 13 year old daughter
Many thanks to Steve and Wynn and everyone else involved for a fantastic race and cracking atmosphere, i'm hooked on this for good:cool: Nice to meet fellow ponies Stolly, Deejay and meet Marvin, NotVeryMiniMarvin and Werdna Swilnick for the first time, thanks also to Stagger for the lift up;)
Great classic course, lovely bright day, friendly runners and brilliant marshals. What more could I ask for?
Oh the ability to run. Crashed horribly right at the start and was going backwards from Robinson. Felt cold and grey and went straight back to the car for a kip afterwards. Last few months of good running counted for nought. Suddenly I am doubting my aim of the Lakeland Classics.
:(

I love Anniversary Waltz and have run 8 of the last 9 races and it seems to me that many runners go off too fast on the long initial track/road sections. I typically reach the top of Robinson something over 40% of my total race time and then there are four more climbs which is where the real race takes place.
I also have my split times for the races which illuminate the "wind factor" yesterday. Compared to my times in, say 2002, yesterday I was 4, 6 and 7 mins slower at the first 3 checkpoints but once out of the head wind gained 5 minutes back to finish only 2 mins slower than in 2002.
Or I may be posting rubbish?
I don't think you are talking rubbish GB, but I did the same yesterday and it didn't seem to help. I set off slow, 40% of total final time to CP1, but then didn't move on and finished only 2 min under my time of 2 years ago, so it is a pb, but when I last raced this it was my first hill season so I should have moved on more than that, I hoped. However mostly I just felt horribly cold and grey yesterday so didn't enjoy the actual run/ stagger.

I couldn't make this due to illness :( I'll be back next year though :)
Waited on top of Cat Bells to take some photos, really appreciate what the marshals have to do so we can race, it was freezing in that wind up there.
Thanks to every one involved in putting this on, it ran like a well oiled machine :D
Photos
well anyway i did actually take it steady at the start but thats because we was due to reccie leg 5 of the bg straight after the race. Well that was until robinson and then my race instinct took over and i tried to go faster.
I could see geoff b in the distance but he was taking miles out of me on the descents, nearly caught him at catbells but he was just too strong.
made a mistake on robinson, trying to climb through the crags instead of following the masses.
nice to meet ady in accy, loads of other forumites there. couldnt quite believe how strong the wind was after the drop off catbells through the bracken.
thanks to wynn, steve and all the team
def a highlight in the fell race calendar
oh well done to pudgy , who went off like a man possesed , only just caught him near he end
well done IAN
After our reccie we made it back to the hall and steve found us some cake.
Geoff swung into action straight away and wild horses couldnt stop him from taking a piece.
looks like him, pudgy, and fleeter was well into the beer.
ahm, pudgy couldn't hold onto his pint, fleeter was struggling to stand after his third tee cup:p pudgy even managed a nice spot prize(socks) then again he does complain that he always needs new ones!
and me well i was happy running up and down the lane with results... alex did grumble at me a few times(sorry) nice to meet wynn and steve, wynn hope your leg is ok? :)
o yeah and roger pulled out due to some calf injury.. hope you have fully recovered?
'twoz a good day out. annoyed i didnt finish the junior though due to reccuring foot injury i got last summer :( but still enjoyed the day.:)
Bad luck NVMM. We'll have to help get that sorted for you.
Great route, great route - so good we did it twice. Can't wait for next year to do it again.
Thanks to Wynn, Steve and everyone else who helped to make this such a good day out.

Great race I really enjoyed it.
Many thanks to Steve, Wynn and the marshalls.
Met MerryLegs going up to Dale Head and a few other forumites at the start. Shame I had to rush off to pick up and slightly injured but very cold wife in Hawkshead.
Great pictures.
I see the coolest female fellrunner is still holding her title.;)
Great day out, pleased the old body held up!
Great photos on Borrowdale Fell runners site.
Merrylegs forgot to give you the Bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale, duly supped it for ya tonight. :)
great race and splendid day out, cheers for the cake wynn!, had it for tea today
A great day out and I would like to thank Wynn, Steve and their team of marshalls and helpers.
Nice to meet some other forumites.:)
Oh and the curse of Merrylegs has struck on my computer.
Emma & I made a weekend of it & both had a fantastic time. Emma was especially chuffed because she didn't come last in her junior race this year (despite moving up an age category!)
Couldn't quite finish all the beer and cakes before Daz, Marvin & the others got back from their BG recce - but made a good go of it.
Thanks again to Wynn, Steve, marshals & helpers. And especially to the junior organisers.
Did you notice who came 2nd in the under 8's race? Yes, Aalish Taggart (and she's only just 6, I think). Must be something in the genes.
Thanks to the organisers, marshalls and everyone involved....A brilliant day.
Also a special thanks to the person who found my Girlfriends cashpoint card and handed it...Thank you very much.
PS. Have the results been published yet??????
Another well organised race thanks to Wynn and Steve and all the other helpers shame i had to drop out but hope i will be there next year, Nice to meet all the forumites again

Hi penguin, thanks for the help you make a great runner, the knee will take a couple of months to repair and at present looks like a multicoloured rainbow from knee to ankle..... ho hum i guess that'll stop me from doing to much...
Bugger 204th out of 413 finishers and 9 retirees - a shining beacon of averageness then :D. Just 16 seconds behind Graham Breeze mind and, if I'm guessing right, not that far behind Moo either.
If only I hadn't twitted about putting on my windproof on Robinson, taken a better line off of Hindscarth, followed GB on his left hand line on the final hill before Catbells and...... well, generally run faster
Just when I thought the race day couldn't have been any better, I find I managed my best ever finish. Surprised and happy to be all of 336th. For some reason I seem to do a little bit better in races that have more ups and downs than flat bits:confused:
What about the Junior results? Are they going up as well?
