folk clubs?

You never know you may be 1 of the 1st to witness the new Laura Marling or the latest hip folktronica act - you'll be able to say you saw them 1st in some dingy basement dive...although I suppose with our luck it will be some nerds with beards and cardigans...........

If only...

My memories of going to folk clubs in my teens was mainly men with big beards and fingers in their ears...

Mind you occasionally they used to bring their tasty harp/fiddle/flute playing daughters along....

Don't sweat it Danbert. I went to a poetry reading with some forumites last year having no understanding of poetry at all. The poetry was well confusing, he may aswell have been speaking Afrikaans, but it was fun meeting some forumites and they had Tennents lager in the pub after.

You don't have to go, sit and watch tely instead :sneaky:.

There's always a downside to every evening out! ;)

As it happens, it wasn't a bad night.

The best singer was a bolshie eckythump Yorkshireman whose best songs were about the mass land tresspasses. (i.e. Moustache-twirling landowners clouting peasants and shooting defenceless grouse.)

I bought his CD and am now very pro the salt of the earth workers who just wanted five minutes gasping fresh air before they dropped dead from a lifetime of eating and breathing nobbut soot.

ps - I also discovered that Darwen Tower was built to celebrate the victory of the townspeople in gaining access to the moors above their streets and houses.

Best bit of action I've had for a while at uni came after a 'community day' in the local park/....basically turned up got hammered and although she was probably vegetarian, enjoyed lentils and loved John Lennon, I cant complain!

Show of Hands playing Cropredy this year, along with the fantastic Richard Thompson and lots of others. Always worth trying new stuff, you might be pleasantly surprised!
