Just out of curiosity, how tough is this on the ankles? Seems a lot is off path therefore may be quite hard?
Still thinking of things for next weekend but don't want to f*ck my already delicate ankle.

Okay. 3 weeks out of pot, still got swelling. Very conscious going off track would you do it?
Thinking of doing the killer and the dozen next weekend on Sat and Sun with a camp and a few beers in Edale but also want to ensure that my ankle stays in one piece.
Oh please don't take that as gospel as there are plenty of different ideas flowing round my head for next weekend.
This was just one of many.
IDP might be interested in sub 7hrs after you get your BG out of the way my PB and Farmers wife's RR.
Although I obviously ran with Milli on Sunday I haven't a clue who he or she is but I will try and find out tonight:confused:
I went round the Dozen today in 7hrs 23min starting from Harry Moor. I don't think it stopped raining the whole time I was out, and the low cloud made the navigation interesting. I didn't see anyone on the hill at all.
I think I would have managed it quicker if I hadn't still got a BG reccie in my legs from Saturday, so IDP's 7 hour Dozen looks doable.
My time was 41 minutes quicker than when DazH and I went round in January, but I didn't stop to eat. It's definitely easier the second time when you know the terrain better, but it's still very tough on the legs and ankles. I'm even more impressed with GeoffB's time of 5:45 - how do you get round that fast?
I was lucky, I suppose. I picked a good day for it (cool & clear), knew the route pretty well & carried no water at all (just loads of cake!).
Well done, anyway, Andy. You'll be fine for the 28th.
I did the Dozen today starting from Blackden Brook with Jodg. the weather was pretty good if a windy. It seem to swing from cold and blustery to a furnasce in some of the clough but there was planty of water around, possibly too much as the going was decidedly squishy! The bracken was like fighting through the Amazon rain forrest at times but we set our selves an ambitious 7.30 schedule. At Crowden tower we were just on pace but Jan then had to head home to do some jobs, Luckily there was another group of 3 DPkers doing the round so I sat down for 10 minutes to wait for them.
They really pushed the pace and i was soon back on track and then up. I was very happy to finished in 7.23 given my short break and they came in just under 7.12-14.
Late April-early May and 7 hours will definitely go with no bracken and dryer conditions. Geoffs time still remains awsome.
Before any one asks yes the knee was fine if a little sore coming off Grindsbrook, I might just sit down with a diary and....
I did a Kinder half-dozen on Saturday - Bowden Bridge up to Harry Moor Ford, round to Seal Stones (4 sections), then across to Grindslow and continue round (2 more sections). I had a nice easy 4:20 run - taking it quite easy as it's my only run over 2.5 hrs this whole year apart from the Edale Skyline!
Quite fun, but descending was very hard going. Not sure how much of that was not knowing where the paths were (e.g. there's a path Crowden Tower - Clough but I didn't know that!) and how much was the depth of the grass. I kept nearly being tripped up as my feet sank into the grass! I guess it'd be easier at another time of year.
Hello All,
I'm looking for a new challenge for 2009 and found this thread and it looks like fun.
Plotted all the grid references on memory map but couldn't work out the route.
At first I went from each point to the summit of Kinder Scout but that was about 85 miles (as the crow flys) and 20,200ft ascent so obviously it was not that.
After a little searching I found this map. would you say it was a pretty good route to follow?
Marshalini
Thats Kens original map. it's pretty much spot on. as long as you visit all the CP you have a freedom to explore and to be honest large areas of the route are open moor, usually vertical or it just feels that way.
I have it on memory map and i also have the full route description. Send me a PM with your email and I'll send it to you, Its a tough day out with only short bits that are runnable, the other route to look at is the Killer, much nicer than the name suggests.
Cheers guys,
There are some times posted on here ranging from 5:45 to 9:00 hours what would you say was a reasonable time to target.
I'm nowhere near hill fit at the moment, so I wont be trying it any time soon, I'm just about finished with my road running targets so hopefully I'll get some good hills in from Christmas onwards and be in some kind of shape when the weather takes a turn for the better. My last long hill run was 21 miles, 5,737ft in 3:46.
Thanks for all the information etc IDP
I'm thinking of giving this a bash over Xmas if anyone fancies some festive fatigue.
Yep I was looking at this for the week between Christmas and New Year.
PM me with dates and i will sort myself out for it.
Running with you it would be fatigue too.
You know you want to, Grouse.
Well finished the year with a bit of festive fatigue with Marko yesterday. Got round in about 7.30. Groun was solid so it was bit hard on the old pates of meat, and some fantastic cloud inversions.
Marmite and fish paste butties of course.
Answering Geoff, well done, i think DesG would be impressed with that timing! x
Thoroughly enjoyed the Kinder Dozen. That Ken Jones mustn't have liked running on level ground much! Starting from the Snake Inn, it took us 7hr 21mins, which was slower than expected but we took it v. steady on the descents, didn't take the best lines on a view of the descents, and generally took in the views. I think it would be possible next time to do sub 7 hours though getting anywhere near Geoff's time of 5hr 45 would be tough, to say the least.
I completed a Kinder Dozen from Harry Moor yesterday in 6hrs 47min. Very pleased with this as it was 36 minutes inside my previous best. It was very breezy which made for slow progress at times, but visibility was excellent. Lots of hares about, now in their summer colours. Very few people until I reached Crowden Clough.
Well Done Marvin - Fantastic Time!
I'll be happy one day to get round a Killer during the hours of daylight! :D
Nice one, Marv - didn't drop anything did you?;).
